“If you continue to talk, you will ruin the mood for me.” I grasp the back of his head and pull his face down to mine. Our mouths collide in a tangle as he fits his body squarely between my thighs and I weave my fingers through his silky hair.

“How about this? Does this help your mood?” He rolls his hips against the apex of my thighs, the hard press of his length straining within its confines.

I gasp and he deepens the kiss, his tongue stroking against mine, letting me taste the mead and honey he ingested.

His fingertips toy with my braid, slide along my jawline, over my neck, cupping it gently as he kisses me with abandon, as if he could get lost in my lips alone.

But imagining his hands and mouth elsewhere on my body stirs a throbbing pulse between my legs that I can’t ignore. Using strength I always hide around mortal males so as not to bruise their frail egos, I flip Tyree over onto his back, climbing on to straddle him.

A sly grin curls his lips as he sits up and tugs his tunic over his head, revealing the honed body I caught a glimpse of earlier, his shoulders cut and shapely, his arms carved with muscle. “I am not one of your mortal conquests you can command.”

I lift an eyebrow in challenge. “Are you saying you will not give me what I want?”

“I will give you everything you want, Annika. You simply must let me.” Heat flares in his eyes as he tugs the hem of my nightgown up until it pools at my waist. Strong hands slide around my back, pulling my hips against his, earning both our moans as the thin barrier left between us proves nearly nonexistent.

On impulse, I grip his jaw to angle his face away, giving me access to his columnar neck. My thumb sinks into the smear of honey I gifted him earlier.

“Do you miss it?” He pants, his throat bobbing with his hard swallow.

“I don’t know.” I lean in, dragging my tongue back and forth over the spot where I would have sunk my teeth in, inhaling the delicious spicy orange blossom scent of his blood. I could never have kissed him here without drawing my fangs before.

“You can pretend.” Tyree’s hand skims my inner thigh. “I trust you.”

I let my teeth scrape across his jugular as I revel in his hot skin and the way his pulse begins to race with anticipation against the flat of my tongue. And I admit to myself that, yes, I would beg the fates to allow me such an intimate act, so I could share it with Tyree.

His fingers slip beneath the fabric of my undergarment and into my slick core.

I moan at the sudden intrusion.

“Annika.” Tyree’s voice has turned gruff. Fisting my braid, he gently but forcefully guides my body backward until my back bows.

My eyes meet the ceiling as his teeth clamp over my nipple, the sticky sweet honey coating on his cheek and chin smearing over my skin with abandon as he sucks, all the while his other hand continues rubbing my sensitive flesh with a skilled touch.

I fumble with his breeches between us, unfastening the buckle, granting me access.

“Still looking for that ring?” He chuckles against my flesh.

“I am. Do you have it in here?” A sigh sails from my lips as I slip my hand inside to grip his hard length, his skin hot and velvety smooth, his size pleasing.

His mirth cuts off with a curse. “Fuck, Annika.” He releases his grasp on my hair, allowing me to make a show of sucking the honey from my thumb as he watches intently.

Suddenly, I’m on my back again, with Tyree on his knees, working my nightgown and undergarments off me. He tosses them off to the side. His gaze rakes over my naked body splayed before him. “You are a hundred times more beautiful than all the stories across the realms ever suggested.”

An answer to a summoning, he had called me earlier, in a moment that stalled my heart and made me question how he could be the same Tyree I’ve hated for so long.

Kneeling before me now, the candlelight glinting off his honed form, his chest heaving with his ragged breaths, surely the same could be said of him.

Ignoring the gooseflesh that has erupted over my skin, I stretch my arms over my head and part my legs wide for him, inviting him in. “Do not be afraid to worship me.”

His easy smile fades, the only warning I have before he seizes the backs of my knees and drags my body down, bending my legs in a vulnerable position that I can’t free myself from. “How is this for worshipping you?” Holding my eyes, he leans forward.
