“You’re right,” she said. “We’re not off to a great start but it’s early days.”
“You hungry? I could order room service?”
She shook her head. They hadn’t gotten to eat, but she wasn’t sure she could now.
“Jacuzzi? It could help with all your aches and pains.”
“Ooh, yes. I’ve never been in one before.”
His eyes widened. “Jesus. Why didn’t you tell me that before? Let’s go.” He started stripping off in the middle of the living area of the one-bedroom suite.
“I’ll go get my suit,” she said, standing. He’d insisted on buying her a bathing suit. She’d chosen one that covered as much skin as possible.
“No need for that. Let’s go in the nudie-rudies.”
“The… the what?”
“Nudie-rudies. Naked.” He gave her a heated look. Glancing down, she could see that his dick was already half-erect.
Okay, then.
Maybe she could be a bit brave and daring.
“Are you sure it’s okay?” she asked. She didn’t like to break the rules. And tonight she’d drawn more attention to herself than she really wanted.
“Sweetie, who is going to know? And I doubt we’re the first people to hop in naked.”
Well, that was likely true.
She reached for the bottom of her sweater, frowning down at the thick bandage around her hand. The nurse had gone a bit overboard in her opinion. All she’d needed was a Band-aid. Now she could barely move her hand. Well, no one would know if she took it off.
A knock on the door made them both frown. Marcus headed for the door, obviously forgetting that he was naked.
She raced to get there ahead of him.
“What are you doing?” he asked. “I’ll get it.”
“Clothes. You. None.” Flustered, she couldn’t get her words out properly.
“Huh. Oh yeah. I forgot.” He sent her a happy smile. “I love being naked.”
“I know you do.” Reaching out, she cupped his cheek. “But perhaps it would be better if I answered the door. Whoever is on the other side might not understand you answering the door in the… what did you call it? Nudie-rudies?”
“True,” he sighed, running his hands over his chest. “This is a lot for a mere mortal to handle.”
She was grinning as he turned to walk into the bedroom. She opened the door, surprised to see someone holding a tray of food on the other side.
“Oh good,” the man said cheerfully. “I thought you must have gone out or something. I have some room service for you.”
“You do? But we didn’t order any, I don’t think.” She glanced over as Marcus walked in wearing a robe. It was green and down the back of the gown were colorful spikes. It was the one she’d bought him for Christmas.
They’d agreed to give each other small gifts.
So he’d bought her a car. He’d tried to justify it by saying it was a small car. Apparently, he’d wanted to get her a pink Hummer.
Lord, he was trouble sometimes.
“Nope. I didn’t order any. Must have been Cullen.”
She nodded.
“Actually, no, it wasn’t,” the guy holding the tray said cheerfully. “Could I bring this inside?”
“I’m so sorry,” she said hastily. “Of course. Here, let me take it.”
The guy shot her a look of disbelief. “I have it. If it’s all right for me to come in?”
She nodded, stepping back.
“Huh, if not Cullen then I’m guessing Master Derek ordered it,” Marcus said.
The owner of the Ranch had escorted them all to the infirmary where the nurse had bandaged her up. He was a big man with a kind smile. But she sensed he could be stern when needed. She was a bit intimidated. However, that was nothing new.
“Actually, he tried to put in an order, but this was already being put together,” the waiter said.
She stared over at Marcus in confusion.
“By whom?” Marcus asked.
“Mr. Baird. He’s a thoughtful man. Hasn’t been here for a while but it’s nice to see him back again.”
The door closed and locked behind him, and Marcus was already pulling off the covers of the food.
“Why would he send us food?” Isla asked.
Marcus shrugged. “He was there when you hurt yourself. Probably realized we would have missed dinner.”
“I know, but… we’re not anyone to him.”
Marcus eyed her. “Perhaps he was just being kind.”
Kind.
She hadn’t really had much kindness in her life. Not until Marcus.
“Ooh, yes, he ordered dinosaur nuggets! These are the best!” Marcus crowed.
She walked over to find a plate filled with chicken nuggets in the shape of different dinosaurs. Wow. There were also fries, two chocolate milkshakes, and two cheeseburgers. More than enough food.
And there was a note.
I hope you don’t find it presumptuous of me to send food, but I didn’t like the idea of you both going without dinner. I took a guess on what food you might like; hopefully, I was right.
Eliot.
“Do you think he wrote that himself?” she asked. But that would mean he’d gone to the kitchens and ordered it in person and left that note.
