I went right to Jinx, and even if it gave me the heebie-jeebies to touch it, I pulled the comforter over her.

“I’ve had a good night, but it’s been a slow month. How’m I gonna pay my electric bill now?” she asked. Before we could say anything, she pushed, “Hunh? Hunh?” Then she let loose a stream of enraged Spanish.

“Oh man,” Luna mumbled.

“What? You don’t got a key?” Jinx asked. “I always got a key, but the fucker took that too. How you two on the streets without a universal key? Motherfucker!” and more Spanish.

But that wasn’t what Luna was referring to.

She was referring to me.

I was feeling what I hadn’t felt since I doused an asshole rapist with honey and loosed an entire ant farm on him.

And she knew me.

I whipped out my burner, pulled up the only contact in it and tapped in, Jacob Brewer’s number, right now! then hit send.

“We’ll figure this out, Ra…Kelly. Calm down,” Luna urged.

I didn’t calm down.

I ordered, “Help her get dressed as well as you can.” I looked to Jinx. “What was he driving?”

“Who gives a fuck?” Jinx answered.

“You want your money back?”

“Kelly,” Luna warned.

“You can do that?” Jinx asked.

“Damn straight. What was he driving?”

“Blue Lexus.”

I stormed out.

I raced down the stairs to the night clerk, waltzed into the grimy reception area and rapped hard on counter.

“I wanna see the parking lot camera footage from about an hour and a half ago, and I wanna see it right now,” I demanded.

And no. I hadn’t missed the cameras. They had four of them trained to the lot.

“And I wanna fuck Jennifer Lawrence,” he retorted. “Looks like we’re both in for a disappointing night.”

I whipped my Taser around and pointed it at him. “Show it to me, asshole, or I’ll send so many volts into you, you’ll piss your pants and slobber.”

He put his hands up. “Fucking shit, woman. Cool it.”

“One of your patrons was robbed. Footage. Now!”

His eyes darted beyond me, and I turned to see Luna entering.

“Just fuckin’ chill. I’ll call it up,” the guy said.

He called it up.

Luna and I stood behind the counter and watched one of the four monitors behind the desk.

No keycards in this place, but they had tight security, and it was on show. Probably so they wouldn’t get robbed like Jinx had been.

It wasn’t hard to spot the Lexus.

Or its plate.

“Pause there,” I ordered, and he complied. “Text it in,” I said to Luna as my phone binged with my own text.

I looked at it.

Jacob’s number.

I walked out and into the parking lot where no one could hear me and phoned him.

“Fuck off and die,” he answered, probably thinking I was a too-late-in-the-evening marketing call.

“Jacob, it’s Raye.”

“Raye? You okay? What’s with this number?”

“Do you have a key to handcuffs?”

He chuckled. “You and Cap into some kinky shit and it got outta hand?”

“Jacob, a friend of mine picked up a guy, was handcuffed to a bed, she was robbed, and the asshole left her cuffed to the bed.”

“Fucking hell,” Jacob whispered.

“Now, do you have a universal key?” I asked.

“Where are you, sweetheart? I’ll be right there.”

Knew he’d be a good source for that.

But we were requisitioning a couple of those keys and the handcuffs that went with them for the Accord and Merc.

“Sun Valley Motor Lodge on Roosevelt.”

“I’m on it.”

He hung up.

Luna was right beside me.

“You text it in?” I asked.

“Yeah, Raye, honey. But you need to chill.”

“Fuck that,” I said and marched up to Jinx. When I got there, I told her, “Key’s on the way. Maybe ten, fifteen minutes.”

“Gracias a Dios.”

“What’d he look like?” I asked.

“Clean cut. Blond. Short. Skinny. Small dick,” she answered.

I nodded, though I didn’t need the dick info. I didn’t tell her that.

Luna’s phone binged.

She flipped it open, looked at it then showed it to me.

An address in Arcadia.

That particular area of Phoenix was money.

Lexus and Arcadia.

Loser had bank and was stealing from sex workers.

“Keep it in control,” Luna warned.

“I’m good,” I bit off.

“She kinda scary,” Jinx said.

“She really doesn’t like sisters getting fucked over,’ Luna told her.

“I can see this,” Jinx replied.

I moved out to the walkway to wait for Jacob.

He didn’t mess around and was there in less than ten minutes. He saw me and jogged up the steps.

He handed me the key, asking, “She okay?”

I looked him dead in the eye. “Dude, ask Alexis out. She’s so into you, she practically is you. You keep fucking that shit up, she’s going to move on, and you’re gonna kick yourself for the rest of your life.”

His chin jerked into his neck.

“She’s right,” Luna said.

I turned. She was standing in the door behind me.

“And you’d be super cute together,” Luna added.

I tossed the key to Luna.

She caught it and disappeared behind the door.

“She’s a ballerina,” Jacob reminded me.

“So? She’s a tiny little thing that men can throw across a stage. She needs you. You’re perfect for her. She’ll feel safe with you. And she’s head over heels for you. Stop the woman parade and jump on that.”
