Because of where he currently stood at the edge of the billiard area and, with a sea of people blocking his view of the bar, he lost sight of Nova.

He wasn’t comfortable with that. Not one fucking bit. But not one biker in that place got their own beer or booze if a woman was with them, whether ol’ lady or otherwise. He only hoped that Nova wearing Ghost’s cut would keep most hands off her.

When he finally spotted her elbowing her way back through the crowd and returning to him, he blew out a held breath. Even though he knew she could take care of herself, that didn’t mean he didn’t worry about her. That instinct was impossible for him to shut off.

His relief was short lived when he saw what she carried. Two bottles of fucking Budweiser. He guessed bikers weren’t picky as long as their beer was cold, wet and, of course, cheap.

The woman joining him definitely wasn’t cold or cheap. Now wet on the other hand…

He grimaced when she reached him. “Bud?”

She rolled her eyes and shoved one of the bottles into his chest. When he went to grab it, she tightened her grip and went up on her toes, putting her mouth to his ear.

He automatically palmed her ass, pretending she was whispering something dirty when she was actually telling him she’d seen four Deadly Demons MC members at one end of the bar.

“Thank fuck,” he murmured. He didn’t want to waste another damn weekend in this dump without any results.

She scraped his earlobe with her teeth and her short nails over his beard as she lowered herself back to her feet. “My reaction, as well.” She scanned the busy billiard area. “Any over here?”

“No.”

“You put a quarter on the table?”

“Yup.”

She nodded and tipped her bottle to her lips, taking a tiny sip. “I think next time I’m up at the bar, I’ll grab a couple of waters and head to the restroom to refill our bottles with that.”

“Smart,” he murmured, keeping his head on a swivel and constantly scanning the bikers for any threats or possible issues since it was much more crowded tonight than it was last weekend. He had no doubt some scuffles, maybe even brawls, would break out. They needed to stay vigilant.

Unfortunately, it was hard to hear his own damn thoughts over the rock music blasting from the jukebox. Not to mention, the drunks singing along at the top of their lungs—off key, of fucking course—to a George Thorogood song.

“Tell me something I don’t already know.”

When he dropped his eyes to her, Nova was smiling up at him. And, damn, if that didn’t catch his breath.

He couldn’t get over how gorgeous she was, even dressed as Ghost’s ol’ lady in torn jeans, a T-shirt with the neckline she cut out in a V, so low it showed the top half of her push-up bra, and a wide black leather belt cinched around her waist, emphasizing how narrow it was.

Like last weekend, she had put on her makeup heavy-handedly, donned the black chain collar around her throat, added a wide black leather cuff on one wrist and a few silver and turquoise rings on her slender fingers.

He was not one to wear jewelry, but since he had an ear pierced already from a previous undercover assignment, he had a silver skull hanging from his left ear and wore a couple of typical bulky biker-type rings Nova had borrowed from Shadow Valley Pawn.

The amount of the side-eye he kept getting from members of other MCs made it apparent that the Dirty Angels didn’t step out of their territory often. Maybe the DAMC wasn’t the best option for going undercover but it had been the easiest and smartest. They never would’ve slipped into another club without a lot more work and even more worry about being made. Being outed as undercover law enforcement in a hostile MC would be dangerous, possibly even deadly.

Tugging on Nova’s cut, he drew her off to the side and out of the way. He found a spot for them over by a lone stool since every table in the bar was packed solid tonight. He perched on the edge of the high wooden stool, angling himself to make sure the back of his cut could be seen.

When he tugged Nova between his spread thighs, she leaned back into him, appearing more relaxed than she really was. Like his, her gaze constantly sliced through the throng of bar patrons as she pretended to chug her beer.

Hooking an arm under her breasts, he pulled her even tighter against him so when they talked it would be less likely anyone could overhear them. He nuzzled his nose against the back of her head for a second. At least her hair smelled a lot better than everything else around them. By the end of the night, that would change and both of them would need to shower to shed themselves of the funk.
