She liked Nox. A lot. She enjoyed spending time with him. She was proud that he was finally shedding his heavy cloak of sorrow.

Both at the surface and at his core, he was a good man. And nothing her father or his “brothers” could say would change her view about him.

She loved her father to death but only tolerated his biker lifestyle. She understood and accepted it was a huge part of him. As was his love and loyalty to his family. He was the most loyal man she knew, and she only hoped some of that rubbed off on her sons.

With her heart galloping like a racehorse, she asked, “Now what?”

“Now we get everyone together and get back on the road,” Nox answered way too calmly.

“I’m not sure it’ll be that easy.”

“We don’t have a beef with them. They just need to mind their own business and we’ll mind ours.”

“I’m not sure it’ll be that easy,” she repeated as the Dark Knights finished rolling through the lot and parked on the other side, leaving some distance between the two groups.

Today made it glaringly clear, their MC had a lot more members than the Blue Avengers. About two dozen Knights along with their ol’ ladies, if they had one, were in attendance. Liyah knew that wasn’t all of them.

Because Magnum was a beast of a man in size, he stood above the rest when he dismounted from his sled after helping Cait off first.

Even being in his late fifties, the big man still exuded strength, power and fearlessness. Was he the oldest member of the Knights? No, but he was far from the youngest.

New blood was constantly joining their MC. The club did their best to keep their numbers up by actively recruiting for new prospects. And then constantly patching-in the prospects who didn’t wash out.

Besides the belief that there was power in numbers, they also wanted to remain strong and appear as a united front. That made them a good ally to both the Dirty Angels and Blood Fury MCs. It created what was known as the “Biker Army of the West.” A force to be reckoned with in case any other MC, one-percenters or otherwise, attempted to fuck with any of them.

Including the Blue Avengers.

She pulled free of Nox. “I should go talk to my father before anything goes down.”

“Nothing will go down.”

Again, he sounded way too nonchalant for Liyah’s taste. “You can’t guarantee that. First of all, while they all know me, they all don’t know that I’ve been seeing you.”

“And that will be a problem,” he concluded.

“They have a problem with law enforcement whether I’m involved or not.”

“We’re aware of that.”

A thought popped into her head. “Hang on... That task force you avoided telling me about… That has nothing to do with my father’s club, does it?”

“If it did, I wouldn’t be able to tell you. But it doesn’t, so I can assure you that they are not our focus.”

Now her curiously was piqued about this “special assignment” he was on.

Even so, relief swept through her that the Knights were not their target since her father had done time in the past. She did not want him ever going to prison again. It would take him away from his family, both his own blood, as well as his club.

“Then I look forward to hearing about this task force you somehow forgot to tell me about.” She sighed and turned to scan the newcomers. “Okay, I’ll go settle any choppy waters, so it doesn’t turn into a tsunami. I’ll be back.”

“You don’t have to do that, Liyah. We are perfectly capable of handling anything coming our way.”

“I’d prefer it if there wasn’t even a risk of that.”

“Want me to go with you?”

She bugged her eyes out at him. “Seriously?”

He shrugged. “If you want me with you, I’ll go with you. If you think I’m scared of your father or his friends, I’m not.”

You should be, she wanted to warn. “I can handle it. They’ll be more tense if you’re standing by my side, but I appreciate the offer.”

“I’ll be keeping an eye on you,” she heard as she headed to the other side of the lot where the Knights were now gathering in a circle, most likely discussing what to do next.

But before she could single out her father, someone stepped in her path.

Romeo.

Of course.

The Knights’ president saw she was here with another man but that wouldn’t stop him from doing what he always did while in Liyah’s presence.

Hit on her.

If he did it in front of Nox, he was only doing it to get a reaction.

“Get out of my way, Rome.”

“Figured you were headed our way to talk to a real man.”

Liyah gritted her teeth. “You’d think by now you’d get the message that I’m not interested, but here you are. Again.”
