“Okay. I can do that. What’s the second thing?”

“You make good on my dinner invite. You and me tonight and I won’t take no for an answer. In fact, we’ll leave from here together so you can’t ditch me again. How about it? Let me take you out and show you a good time. You said at the airport that you’re new in town, right?”

“Is that appropriate? I mean, you’re my boss now.”

“I’m everybody’s boss. Who’s gonna stop me? Now, you better move if you want to meet the first condition.”

She nods, spins in a circle, and asks, “Where’s the conference room?”

Yeah, she’s going to be a handful alright. I escort her to the conference room and switch on the lights. “We need a pitcher of water, some fresh coffee, pens, notepads. Everything is in here you just need to set it all up.”

“Got it.” She nods and gets to work.

Maybe it’s the fact that I’m in the office or that the deal of the year is looming just a few minutes from now, but I manage to overcome the brutal, blood-thickening urge to rip her clothes off and lay her out on my desk. I need to win her trust or she wouldn’t have stood me up in the first place. That’s alright, winning is part of my genetic code and she’s worth every ounce of effort it takes to be with her.

I step out of the room and watch her from the open door. Whether she’s all dolled up in her business suit and heels or wearing jeans with her hair down makes no difference at all.

She’s still the most beautiful girl and that just doesn’t add up. How is it possible that nobody’s taken her virginity? I have to imagine that a lot of men have tried. She has standards and a moral code. Those things are becoming very rare these days.

I check the time again and go back to my office for my laptop and phone. She’s almost out of time so I may need to greet the client at the elevator myself. I collect my things and head in that direction but find her standing guard at the elevator doors.

“Good girl,” I whisper and inspect the conference room. She’s done everything I told her to do. It’s refreshing to find a girl so young who knows how to follow orders.

I pour myself a glass of water and take my seat at the head of the table. I prefer to be in position when my clients arrive. Presentations by nature are nothing more than performances and the staging is just as important.

The boss sits in the boss' chair as a symbol of power and control. He arrives early and waits for the client—the audience—to usher in and settle into their seats. That’s the first step in having the upper hand. My mind needs to be clear and focused so I can watch their body language.

Do they look intimidated? Are they nervous? Usually, they’re just eager for me to convince them that the decision they’ve already made is the right one. That’s the same thing I’m going to have to do with Beth. She decided to give herself to me the second I put my hands on her. She just needs me to remind her of that and convince her that she can trust me.

Beth escorts the client to the conference room. He’s followed closely by his attorney. I hoped he’d come alone, but it shouldn’t matter at this point. I’ve double and triple-checked the paperwork and there’s no obtuse or legally sticky language in it. The lawyer should give the client the nod on the legal side without any issues.

I clench my teeth when I see the man in the blue suit look Beth up and down as she exits the room. His eyes settle on her ass, and he doesn’t turn to greet me until she’s out of sight. With a smug look on his face, he tells me, “You’ve got a lovely office. I bet I could really make myself at home here.”

“Well, sorry. I’m not hiring,” I grit out.

“Hiring? I think I’m quite a bit outside your price range.”

“Are you sure about that? Have you looked at my portfolio? Of course, you have or you wouldn’t be here today.”

“Given that you’ve asked me here to invest in your company, I would think I’m overqualified for any position,” he says as he adjusts his tie. His fidgeting demonstrates his lack of confidence. I have a hard time respecting a man who doubts himself.

I stand up and hold my hand out to him. He plants a pompous smile on his lips and offers me a weak handshake. I make sure I grip his hand firmly.

“Have a seat, gentlemen. Let’s get down to business, shall we?”

I spin my presentation with my usual confidence even though my fists are getting itchier each time my client looks out into the hall at Beth. I just keep telling myself that once I seal the deal, he’ll have no reason to come back here again.
