“Like you wouldn’t know, you dirty perv,” I throw back at him. “I could feel your stare on me the whole time. You watched every second. I wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve got binoculars stashed in your bedside drawer.”

Tanner laughs, his eyes filled with the darkest secrets. “Baby, you’re not prepared for the shit I’ve got stashed in my bedside drawer.”

Hooooooly shit.

My cheeks flame to the point of pain, and all the fucker can do is grin. So instead of chickening out like a little bitch, I reach up to grip the bottom of the window and grin right back at him. “I think the things I’m prepared for might just shock you, Tanner Morgan,” I say, letting him see the twisted desire in my eyes. “Now, be a good little perv and go to bed, and while you’re at it, you can dream about all the ways I’m going to return the favor.”

And with that, I close the window and race back to my bed before pulling the blanket right up over my head. I grab my phone and save the video to a locked gallery, but only after watching it three more times. A grin pulls at my lips as I turn the camera on myself. That big asshole isn’t going to know what hit him.

Chapter 9

BRIELLE

The blistering sun shines down over Bradford, and I adjust myself on the pool lounger. Summer is supposed to be over. It shouldn’t be this hot. I have boob sweat. BOOB SWEAT! Chicks with minimal breasticles aren’t supposed to get boob sweat. What the fuck is going on here?

Ilaria stands in the pool, her arms resting on the tiled edge as she looks up at me, her long hair swaying around her shoulders in the water. “I swear to all things holy, Brielle. If you bail on the twins’ party tonight, I’m personally going to sew your vagina closed with a knitting needle.”

Chanel scoffs from beside me, having to pause her cocktail sipping just to berate me. “Girl, it’s social suicide if you don’t go. Though, I suppose that shit doesn’t really bother you.”

Arizona laughs across the other side of the pool, pulling up her bikini straps to check the process of her suntan, though it looks more like a burn to me. “You’re the social climber around here,” Arizona says to Chanel. “This is Marjorie we’re talking about. She’d probably skip the party simply because it is social suicide. Bri’s an old, introverted soul who doesn’t give a shit about anything. The only reason she went to the races last night is because she’s wet for the captain.”

I laugh and shrug my shoulders. “The girl has a point.”

Chanel rolls her eyes. “Well, I don’t care,” she says, turning her attention back to me. “You’re coming whether you want to or not. I swear if anyone knows how to throw a party, it’s Jax Morgan.”

“Not Logan?” I ask, my brow arching in interest.

Ilaria scoffs. “Hell no. Logan wouldn’t know how to throw a party if it inserted itself up his ass and he had to shit it out again,” she laughs, her gaze flicking toward Chanel who clearly doesn’t like us talking shit about the guy she’s madly in love with, though I’m not entirely sure she’s aware of that. “Logan lets Jax do all the work so he can take all the credit, but everyone knows Jax is the brains of the operation when it comes to parties, which is saying a lot. Jax is never the brains of any operation.”

A laugh rumbles through my chest. I’ve never heard such a truer statement.

Chanel rolls her eyes. “Can we all lay off Logan now? He’s not as bad as you’re making him out to be.”

Arizona laughs. “You’re just saying that because you’re the one reaping the rewards. Tell me, how long have you two been screwing in secret before we figured it out?”

Chanel glances away, sipping on her straw as if trying to buy herself a minute to come up with a perfectly good explanation as to why she kept us all in the dark about her budding relationship with Logan. Though to be fair, I’m almost certain the girls already knew and just decided not to say anything until Chanel was ready.

A smug smile spreads across her face and she turns back to me. “So,” she says, releasing the straw from between her lips. “What are you wearing to the party?”

I can’t help but laugh. This girl would do or say anything to avoid discussing the ins and outs of her relationship with Logan, though I’m not sure if relationship is the right word for it. They’re definitely more than just fuck buddies, but they hate each other enough for it to be the worst kind of toxic … but then, didn’t Tanner and I start the same way? Not that Tanner and I are anything solid right now. At least, not until he breaks down my resolve and forces me to face the fact that I don’t want to be without him.
