Brooke comes in on my other side and takes my other hand, squeezing it hard as I watch Nate hit the gas. The Mustang takes off like a bat out of hell. Nate pushes himself out in front of the black car and my eyes follow him like a hawk.

He looks good and it seems like the car is taking to the track like it was created for this sole purpose, though, that’s very possible. Nate built it with the intention of racing it, so I’m not surprised to see it handling so well.

The cars hit the first corner and the black car sits right on Nate’s ass, just like Jackson’s did right before he rammed him off the road. Nate hits the gas around the corner and sails through it like lightning. It’s clear as day he was made for this.

Nate has always said that he races for fun, not because it’s something he wants to do with his life, but I’ll understand if he changes his mind in the future. He has a gift for racing but restoring cars is his passion and it shows. His Mustang is sleek and sexy and the Camaro was badass.

The race goes on and the further they get around the track, the calmer I become. Nate is killing it. He’s back and he’s letting the world know exactly what he’s made of. Nobody can fuck with Nate Ryder. Not now. Not ever.

He’s one hundred percent, pure badass, and I absolutely love it.

I start heading down to the finish line, knowing without a doubt in my mind that he’ll be crossing it first, and when he does, I want to be the first girl he sees.

I get to the line just as Nate crosses it and the atmosphere down here is incredible. People cheer and if I’m not careful, I’ll get swallowed by the crowd. I surge forward as Nate slams on his brakes and brings up a cloud of dust behind him.

Fuck, that’s hot.

My eyes flame as I watch him, and I realize with every fiber within me that Nate Ryder is my man. No other woman will ever have him, not as long as I’m still breathing. Let the bitches try, but they should be warned that I will be there to knock them down every step of the way.

Girls come out of nowhere, wanting a piece of my man, but as he pushes his way out of the Mustang, his eyes are only on mine, completely eating me up and drawing me in like an invisible magnetic field. The girls try to grab at him and throw themselves all over him but it’s like they don’t even exist, not when he’s focused solely on me.

“You did it,” I cheer, rushing forward and jumping up into his arms. He catches me and I wrap my legs around his waist before crushing my lips down on his. “You’re amazing.”

“How amazing?” he questions grinning down at me.

“Incredible,” I laugh. “Badass. Unbelievable. Phenomenal. Remarkable. Do I need to keep going?”

“No,” he laughs. “I think you’ve covered it all, but keep those words in mind when I get you home tonight.”

“Deal,” I laugh. “Now take me home. Watching you race was hot and I don’t think I can wait any longer.”

“I knew there was a reason I bought you here.”

Chapter 13

I hurry down the stairs on Monday morning as I pull my handbag up over my shoulder. I double check the time on my phone and cringe. Looks like I don’t have enough time to make myself a proper breakfast this morning. Damn it, I’ll have to grab something to go and be hungry until first break.

I sigh as I continue down the stairs. I’m not going to let that get me down. Today is going to be a good day. I feel it in my bones. After all, Nate is taking me to get my baby back before school. I’ve never been so excited. Oh, and the fact that I’m going to see Nate has everything to do with it.

I come to a screeching halt at the bottom of the stairs as a man stands before me. “What the fuck?” I gasp with wide eyes.

“Tora,” my father scolds. “Watch your language.”

I gape at him for a second, not really caring what curse words just slipped out. “What… what are you doing here?”

“I’m home,” he tells me, before quickly glancing over his shoulder to mom, then back to me. “Didn’t your mother tell you? I came home early. I flew in last night.”

I shake my head as mom speaks up. “I wanted to surprise her.”

“Congratulations,” I grunt. “I’m thoroughly surprised.” And slightly pissed off. I mean, this was the guy who behind the whole ‘break up with your boyfriend’ drama. I want to be happy he’s here as if I’m honest with myself, I still sort of missed him. After all, he is my dad. He’s been gone for the better part of six months. You know, apart from that one little trip home where he decided to ruin my life.
