“It’s a good place to be alone and think. Especially when the parties have been nonstop with this new group of prospects.”

“You don’t like to party?”

“I think just about everything can get old when you don’t get a break from it,” I reasoned.

“I guess that’s fair,” she agreed, turning slightly, and making her ass rub right against my crotch, making me grit my teeth and try to solve some math equations in my head.

What I didn’t do, though, was fucking step away from her like I needed to do.

She twisted her head to look over at me, and there was a moment of, I don’t know, something in the air between us.

But it was also right then that voices came from right below us. Just a moment before they started coming up the ladder.

Then there was Cali’s little firecracker friend. Followed closely by Sully.

“Welcome to my home,” Cali announced, waving around the small space.

“Wondered where you got to,” Sully announced, all smiles, oblivious to Cali’s discomfort.

“How did you get up here?” Sage asked.

“I’m no expert here,” Sully said, dropping an arm on Sage’s shoulders. “But I think they might have used the ladder.”

“I’m afraid of heights,” Cali admitted. “I barely made it up. So, I guess I live here now, because there’s no way I’m getting back down.”

“Oh, I don’t know about that. Come on. Hop on,” Sully said, squatting down in front of her.

“What?”

“Climb on. I’ll piggyback you down. I keep telling Fallon that we should pop another hole in the floor and put in a slide. But will he listen to me? Nooo.”

“I don’t know—“ Cali started to object.

“Ten seconds and you’ll be on the ground level again,” he said.

And those were the magic words.

I suddenly wished I’d have thought of them first.

Because then Cali was wrapping her arms and legs around Sully, clinging to him with everything within her.

It was for the best, I assured myself as Sully carefully lowered them onto the ladder, then disappeared through the hole in the floor.

I’d go from a semi to a fully hard cock in a second if she was wrapped around me like that.

“So, like, you totally want to bang my best friend, don’t you?” Sage asked, head tipped to the side as she watched me.

“What? No. I just… want to keep those idiots away from her.”

“Because Clay wanted you to look out for her, huh?” she asked, and I could tell from her tone that she was mocking me.

“They just want something casual.”

“And what if I told you that she wanted casual?”

“Then she can go find it somewhere else, not in my club.”

“Right. Because it would be too hard to see your club brothers getting to have something you so clearly want.”

“I don’t—“

“Oh, big guy, you sure do. I can practically smell the pheromones coming off of you around her. If it makes you feel any better, she gets them around you too.”

“No,” I said, shaking my head, not wanting to believe her. But also… wanting way too badly to at the same time.

“Oh, come on. I mean why else would she have old notebooks from her childhood with your two names in hearts? Oh, crap. Fuck. Shitballs. You didn’t know,” she said, wincing hard. “Any chance you can just Etch-a-Sketch that right out of your head? ‘Cause she’s gonna blow a gasket if she finds out I let that slip.”

“Relax,” I said, shaking my head, trying to play it cool. Even if the world suddenly felt tilted on its axis. “I won’t say anything.”

“Oh, good. Good. Well, I’m going to go and hang out with my girl. In a normal way. Not an ‘I accidentally just told someone one of your secrets’ way.”

With that, she was gone.

Leaving me alone in the glass room with too many thoughts I needed not to be thinking about.

She’d had a crush on me when we were younger?

And if so, how much younger?

I mean, Clay and I had fallen out of touch maybe seven or so years ago. Which meant Caliana would have been a full-fledged adult at the time, not just a little girl harboring silly, girlish feelings toward her brother’s best friend.

No matter what, though, she was off-fucking-limits.

Even if she’d been into me at twenty, twenty-one, and I’d known and had returned those feelings, she was still Clay’s sister.

Even if I’d had his blessing, I don’t think I could have gone there.

“Christ,” I sighed to myself, realizing how fucking stupid that train of thought was.

So I went back down the ladder, then followed the voices outside, trying to tell myself that the only reason I was doing so was to make sure my brothers kept their hands to themselves like I’d told them to.

And not because I really fucking wanted to see Cali in that bathing suit.

Some part of me had been hoping it was a nice, demure one-piece. But, of course, I wasn’t that damn lucky. It was a barely-there bikini that cut up high on her ass, putting most of her ass cheeks on display.
