No club vote. Just a dictator speaking his decision.

Regardless of what anyone might say, Dev’s heart knew he’d never been his old man’s first choice. The club charter required Dev be the one to follow in his father’s footsteps. The lead position dangled over and taunted him his whole damned life. If he worked hard enough, put the hours in, always put his brothers first, someday he’d be given his rightful place at the top.

Instead, his old man claimed he was an embarrassment.

How had it taken Dev so long to see the truth?

Diesel, Daphne’s new guy, was moving up the ranks faster than anyone ever had.

His dad’s trashy side piece, Dixie, had to be the catalyst behind Diesel’s rise. A strategic maneuver to help keep her and her daughter in a power position within the club once his old man retired.

How long had his mother known about all the other women?

Dev had worn blinders for most of his younger life due to the devotion he had once held for his father. Dev stood up for every bullied person he’d ever known. He’d done it all to prove to his old man that he got it. Authority sucked, only there for the protection of the wealthy. It was up to them to help the mistreated in their community. He understood what standing up for people looked like.

Clearly, his old man mistook Dev’s efforts for weakness or rebellion.

He was so fucking tired of fighting everyone…

The apartment door across the landing from Dev’s opened. His back stiffened, preparing for an attack against a would-be intruder as he shot a stare that way.

Luckily for him, he saw his new tenant before he acted on the threat.

The guy. Pretty boy.

The one who created silence inside Dev’s head.

Thankfully, it happened again because he was fucking tired of the constant chaos slapping him in the face.

The running loop of thoughts quieted as his dick stirred and plumped. The door opened fully. Less than two full breaths later, there he was. Short shorts… Dev assumed they were running shorts, not that he’d ever owned a pair in his life. A tight, torso hugging tank in green that Dev bet matched the guy’s eyes. Long tanned muscle-lined legs and sculpted arms that bordered on massive. All that hot body led up to a handsome profile.

His cock grew stiffer the longer he stared.

Those full lips parted, making his cock pulsate.

His dick demanded something hard and fast…

His gaze went to the nice sized bulge in the formfitting shorts.

Fuck. Pretty boy was hung. His mouth watered. Man, he could use some physical distraction.

“Hey,” Dev said as casually as he could. His tenant wore the white cordless earbuds that Abi kept begging for.

If Dev assessed it all correctly, a cell phone was strapped on the bicep he couldn’t see and he held a lightweight jacket in his grip.

Did the pretty boy plan to go jogging? In this neighborhood? At this time of night?

Alone?

Dev glanced over his shoulder toward the windows lining the front entrance, furrowing his brow. He didn’t know the exact time. Maybe it was still early…ish. But it was November, so it was already dark outside.

“Where you headed?” Dev asked as he continued to amble up the last few steps of the staircase. Pretty boy jerked his head Dev’s direction as if Dev had startled him.

“A jog around the neighborhood,” he finally answered.

The pretty boy tossed the jacket over the railing and went into a full-body stretch, extending his arms forward, fingertips reaching. He executed the perfect lunge, making the definition in the cords and muscles more pronounced.

Shit, his neighbor was built like a beast.

“Not out there you’re not,” Dev barked. “You’ll lose that fancy phone and earbuds at the very least. Those shoes, watch, and clothes at the most. If you see yourself as a fighter, you might lose some teeth along with everything else. Sure would hate to see someone mess up that pretty face,” Dev drawled, trying to make the words less of a compliment and more a statement of fact.

The guy looked at him confused. He wasn’t sure which of his words caused the look so he clarified.

“Not the best neighborhood for a jog at night.” Dev reached the top of the stairs.

His tenant looked over at the window, his brow furrowing. His lips curved into a frown as he stood to his full height.

“I’m on SoCal time.”

“Yeah.” California time. Figured. Dev drew in a breath. “It’s also cold out there.” He pointed to the jacket slung over the banister. “That jacket ain’t gonna cut it tonight. Maybe tomorrow though. It never stays too cold for long around these parts.” Dev pushed his apartment key in the front door deadbolt.

He glanced over his shoulder, giving the pretty boy another more pointed once-over.

Maybe he’d get lucky and the guy would follow him into his apartment, but if he didn’t, he wanted currency for the spank bank later. He quickly memorized that body from head to toe, especially the currently flaccid yet well-endowed cock inside those tight-fitting short shorts.
