His jaw clamped shut as he realized exactly how badly he’d been played. Cash knew it all and had worked him like a textbook, using his loneliness against him.

Goddammit. How could such a pitiful life still shatter into a million painful pieces?

He could barely hold himself together.

“You’re being short-sighted,” Cash encouraged. “Wipe your police record. Add a get out of jail free card.”

“Yeah, all that, and wipe Keyes’s record too, and I hold the right to add to the list once I can fuckin’ think straight again.” Dev let go of his arms, shaking them out, trying to release the tension. He turned around, looking about the living room, then went in the direction of the only armchair in the room. He dropped down in the seat as if he hadn’t sat once in the last week.

He had to find a way to gain back control of his life then this situation. Be open to the pivot when the chance came. It was the only way to survive through this massive, bullshit nightmare he’d landed in. Fucking Tena. Fucking Keyes. What the fuck was he up to?

“What am I gonna have to do?”

He wouldn’t make eye contact with Cash. If he hung on to his hate, this went a million times easier.

“I need access to your club and to your father.”

“Fuck that,” Dev countered. No. He never agreed to get Cash on the inside. He didn’t remember exactly what he promised, but he felt like he agreed to provide the intel himself. It seemed reasonable enough to assume he could teeter a line until some out presented itself. And he sure as hell had to find a way to make his father pay for what he had done. A tricky retribution but one guaranteed to happen… If he bought some time, found what the feds were looking for, and framed his old man, well, life got better for everyone. “Tell me what you want to know. I’ll get you the information.”

Cash’s expensive loafers came into view. Dev looked up, refusing to make eye contact, staring at the first buttoned button of his fancy dress shirt. Cash shook his head as if Dev’s suggestion was nothing more than pomp.

“From this point forward, I’m your boyfriend…”

Dev burst out with a loud harsh laugh, cutting Cash off. “Fuck no. Absolutely not.” He shook his head to drive the objection home and buried his face in his palm again.

“And you’re taking me to Thanksgiving with your family then to the club BBQ over the weekend. I need access to everyone, from brothers to the female club members. And all parts of the clubhouse and your father’s bike shop.”

“The women aren’t members. They’re club whores. It’s a prestigious title they earn. Don’t belittle them,” Dev stated haughtily as if Cash implied differently. “Why the fuck do you need access to everyone? I told you ninety percent of the club knows shit about what’s actually goin’ on.” Dev gave a zero percent chance of him spending another minute more with Cash than necessary.

Frustration wafted off the pretty boy. Good. Deserved. Cash took a deep breath as if trying to steady his building aggravation if the purposeful pace across the room and the flush creeping up his neck meant anything. So, better than good. Dev made a promise to himself to embed himself under Cash’s skin any chance he got. Fuck Cash.

“I’m trying my best to stay patient,” Cash said as if that mattered at all.

“I don’t give a single fuck what you do,” Dev countered, swiping a hand through the air like Cash was nothing more than an irritating gnat.

Luckily for one of them, Shanna came back through the front door. Joe, the nerd, in tow.

“He can do it,” Shanna pronounced boldly. Dev cast a careless glance Joe’s way.

If he could help with his girls, he might forgive him for pointing a shaking gun in his direction.

“We’re going to hold off, Joe,” Cash directed, his steely eyed stare focused only on Dev. “I’m sorry you weren’t clear on how this works, but you don’t have the option to choose how this plays out. Your job is to get me on the inside and keep me there. Then it’s all other duties as assigned.”

The vein in his temple throbbed. If he didn’t settle the fuck down, he’d have a stroke right there in the seat. He’d focus on the one obvious issue with Cash’s plan, the one universal truth of a one-percenter bike club like the Disciples. “Dude, I’m glad you’re so open and out, but my brothers don’t do gay.”

“But you don’t care what anyone thinks,” Cash shot back. “I don’t either. Get me comfortable with your parents and inside the BBQ. I’ll handle the rest.” Cash’s fingers snapped as if he just thought of something. “I need inside church.”
