Lincoln’s tongue licked up my chin then dipped into my mouth, feeding me my own essence. I could barely return the kiss because he was still bucking beneath me every time an aftershock hit him. When it was finally over, Lincoln’s forehead was pressed against my chest. He was shaking.

We both were.

He lay back down and pulled me so that I was lying on top of him like a blanket.

“There’s no way we’re getting past Walter,” I murmured against Lincoln’s chest. “The man’s got a dirty sixth sense.”

“Are you seriously bringing up Walter after what we just did?” Lincoln groused. “I was getting ready for round two but no way I’m getting it up anytime soon,” he added as his arms flopped to the ground.

“I’m sorry, baby,” I teased as I placed soft kisses against his lips. “I’ll make it up to you when we get home.”

“Not so fast,” he murmured as he began returning my kisses. I could feel his dick starting to get hard again. My own was starting to respond too.

“Okay, but you’re driving this time,” I said tiredly.

Lincoln laughed. He was in the process of rolling us so I would be on my back when a sharp bark caught our attention.

“Jesus,” Lincoln said as we both nearly jumped out of our skin.

I instantly felt bad that we’d forgotten to feed the dog before we’d gotten lost in each other’s arms. Hell, I hadn’t even noticed if Nacho had been present when we’d started going at each other.

Nacho barked again, then again.

“God, he must be hungry… or pissed,” I said as Lincoln untangled our bodies.

Nacho continued to bark. It was extremely high-pitched and nonstop.

“I’ve never heard him bark before,” Lincoln said. He pulled me to my feet, and we quickly began to search for our clothes. The dog was clearly in some kind of distress.

Lincoln and I fumbled to get our clothes and shoes on. The second we were done, Nacho was off and running, his bark still high and frequent. The animal led us downstream for several hundred yards. As soon as we hit the paved trail, he turned right.

“Is this the trail to the house?” I asked.

“I think so,” Lincoln answered. “I’ve never been this far into the woods before.”

It was easier to keep up with Nacho even though the dog didn’t seem to want to lose us since he’d stop when he was almost out of sight and then wait until we could see him again.

“He’s taking us back to the house,” Lincoln said.

“Do you think something’s wrong?” I asked. “Don’t dogs have like a sixth sense about these things?” I was huffing so hard from the running that I almost didn’t hear Lincoln’s response.

“Yeah, something’s up,” he said grimly.

Fear consumed me and the adrenaline helped me run faster. What if something had happened to Walter or Lenny? Or what if someone had broken in again? Riley had been alone at the house when we’d left.

“Lincoln,” I called.

The man must have heard the panic in my voice because all he said was, “They’ll be okay.”

Nacho did take us right back to the house but instead of going up the porch, he went around to the side of it. We rounded the corner just in time to see Nacho crawling under the porch.

Lincoln dropped to his knees to follow the dog, but I grabbed his arm. “You’ll never fit through that hole,” I said. “I’ll go.”

He nodded and got out of my way. I’d always wished I was more muscular and heavily built than I was, but at the moment I was thanking God for sticking me in the will-probably-always-be-skinny category. It took just seconds to pull myself into the crawlspace. I tried not to think about all the creepy-crawly critters I might encounter and dug my elbows into the dirt so I could get farther in. I instantly saw what the problem was.

“It’s Puddles,” I yelled as I saw the little white dog lying in the dirt. Her breaths were heavy and every few seconds she’d sit up and lick her privates. Nacho was lying at her side. “Oh God, I think she’s in labor,” I said as I army-crawled to get to her. There were already three squirming puppies. They were wet and bloody. Puddles kept nudging them and licking their fur. “Lincoln, what do I do?” I called frantically.

“Let Puddles do her thing. She’ll follow her instincts. If the puppy still has a sac around it and she can’t get it open, you’ll need to help her.”

Help her? Help her open a sac? What the fuck did that even mean? I’d never even held a puppy when I’d been a kid, let alone seen them being born.

“Why the fuck can’t you be skinnier, Lincoln?” I shouted.

I swore I heard the asshole laughing. Before I could respond, another puppy arrived. There was no sac, but the puppy was wet with all kinds of nasty goo that I didn’t want to think too much about.
