“Ah.” Breck nodded as he watched, chill music playing in the background of Ned’s college apartment. “Probably knows your reputation. Ned, the college campus womanizer.”

“Hmm… Maybe, I guess. But what the shit, ya know? I wasn’t asking her to fuck.”

“Weren’t you, though? In a roundabout way?”

Ned considered that. “Actually, no. Not really. I mean, she’s beautiful. I’d love to get with her, but that’d definitely be down the road. She’s not like the others. I’m telling you, she’s different. Doesn’t roll the way other girls do.”

Breck nodded. “Not interested in one-night stands.”

“Nah. But she did eventually give me one hot fucking dance.” He smiled and pointed facetiously at his face. “Couldn’t resist this.” He gestured to his body next. “Or for the love of sex appeal, any of this.”

Breck tamped a laugh. “How could any chick resist you?”

Ned beamed and puffed out his chest. “They can’t.”

Breck lifted a brow.

“Okay, fine. One person did.” His smile ebbed. “Not gonna lie, I was genuinely wrecked...” He scratched his head, sighed, then slapped on another facetious grin. “As you can see, I haven’t been right ever since.”

Breck coughed another laugh, grateful for his theatrics. It helped to distract him from his own mental woes. “You haven’t been right for a while, my guy.” He jerked his chin. “So… how’d you get ‘guarded girl’ to finally dance?”

Ned shrugged as he collected his darts. “I suggested her friend come, too.”

Breck smirked again. “My boy is shrewd.”

Ned laughed. “It worked out well. And lemme tell you, those two fucking brought it and gave me one hell of a show.”

“Nice.”

“Hot,” Ned corrected. “My dick was titanium.”

Breck shook his head with a grin and took his turn with the darts. “Did you ever get to go one-on-one?”

“Eventually, yeah, when another guy started dancing with her friend.”

“Yeah? And? How’d it go?”

“Awesome. By then she was way more relaxed.” A soft little growl rolled up Ned’s throat, his eyes going all gazey as he bit his lip. Then his voice dropped an octave lower. “She had me melting like butter.”

Breck’s mind detoured, envisioning what it’d be like to dance with Kai like that. God knew, he already knew what it felt like to go liquid in his hands. He fought back a frown, knowing he’d never experience that again. “Wow. You had quite the time.”

“I did…” Ned nodded absently. “God, there’s something about her… So familiar. The way she smiles. And moves. Even the way she smells…” He shook his head, brows drawn, and scratched his cheek. “I just can’t figure it out.”

“Do you have to?” Breck retrieved his darts.

“I guess not.” He exhaled and moved back into position.

“So what happened next?”

“Um…” Ned raked a hand through his bangs. “I bought her some drinks…”

Breck eyed him. “Did you ever get to talk?”

“Not a lot.” Ned frowned, seeming to ponder that. “She’s impressively good at evading. And when we finally stopped dancing… she suddenly had to go.”

“Interesting.”

“Strange,” Ned corrected again. “Girls always want more of this. And I’m telling you, my best of all dudes, she was definitely into me.”

“You get her number?”

Ned grunted. “What do I look like, a fuckin’ rookie? Of course I did.”

Breck’s lips twitched. “And you’re sure it’s legit?”

Ned stilled and eyed him. “Why wouldn’t it be?”

Breck shrugged. “Sounds like something an ‘impressively good evader’ might occasionally do.”

Concern flitted across Ned’s expression, but he quickly played it off and lifted his chin. “That has never been done to me before.”

Breck coughed another laugh. “Oh, well in that case...”

Ned’s smile returned with a confident nod. But then he gestured at Breck. “So, what about you? I presume you scored some fun too, while I was gone?”

Breck’s amusement faded. “Nah, man. Wasn’t feelin’ it. Just laid low.”

Ned frowned, facing him fully, and gripped his hips. “That’s right. You weren’t feeling anything that night. No drinking. No laughing. Your big broody ass was barely even fuckin’ talking.”

Breck feigned indifference and shrugged again. “Had an off night. It happens.”

Ned shook his head. “Nuh uh. I remember now. Somethin’ was buggin’ you, and…” He paused, then winced contritely. “You were gonna tell me, except then I spotted Mystery Girl and totally bailed.”

Breck glanced away with another shrug. “S’all good. It wasn’t anything, anyway.”

“Nope. It was definitely something.” Ned regarded him. “And going by this vibe you’re throwing, it’s still buggin’ you now.”

“Nah, G.” Breck shook his head. “I’m good.”

He was so not in the mood to start spilling his guts. Especially when things had only gotten worse since their last exchange.

Ned crossed his arms and eyed him, undeterred. He wasn’t buying it and clearly wouldn’t be taking no for an answer.

Breck exhaled and scrubbed his face. In all honesty, he still wouldn’t mind venting. Especially now that things had gone from terrible to fucking hellacious.

Ned’s foot started tapping, one eyebrow impatiently cocked. “Let’s hear it, boo. What’s got your jockstrap all in a bunch?”
