Ethan definitely hadn’t expected to find the perfect person in the form of a vampire, especially after what happened to his family. God, what would they think of him? Lying in bed, his ass stuffed and covered in cum, with a fucking vampire?

“What are you thinking?” Marcus said.

“Can you read minds?” Ethan asked, half joking.

“No, but I felt your body stiffen suddenly.”

“Oh.”

Marcus kissed his shoulder and his arms tightened around him. “Talk to me, please.”

Ethan closed his eyes and swallowed. He tried to sink back into Marcus’s warmth, letting it protect him from the dark thoughts running through his head. “I was just wondering…what my family would think if they knew…I’d fallen for you.”

“Is your worry that I’m a man?”

Ethan shook his head.

“It’s that I’m a vampire.” Marcus started to loosen his hold and Ethan grabbed his hand, keeping them tightly pressed together. Marcus tightened his grip again and Ethan relaxed. “Well, since I don’t know your family, I’m going to assume that they are as smart as you and as kindhearted as you. Probably well-adjusted and a bit sassy as well.”

“I like to think all that is accurate,” Ethan said with a smile.

“Then I’d say they would understand that I had nothing to do with their deaths and would accept my vow to help you find the true culprit.”

“Thank you.”

“And they would believe me when I say that I will do everything within my power to keep you safe and make sure that you always feel loved.”

“I love you.”

“I love you, Ethan. I’ve never loved anyone before. Never let myself dream I would have even one night of such happiness. But if I get only one night, I’ll take it and cherish it for the rest of my very long existence.” Marcus paused, his arms tightening. “I worry too. A war is coming. I don’t want to think about you being in danger.”

Ethan could sense where this was building to. He roughly pushed Marcus’s arms off him and rolled so that he was now facing Marcus. Ethan pushed up onto his knees, allowing the silken blankets to slide down his quickly cooling flesh. With a smirk, he threw one leg over Marcus’s hip and straddled him, returning to the warmth he’d found just moments ago in his embrace. The vampire broke all the Hollywood rules. He wasn’t some cold, shambling corpse with perfectly persevered youth. He was a living creature…who just didn’t age. It was easy to understand why Bel was convinced vampirism was a disease that could be cured. His heart beat, breath whooshed in and out of his lungs, he ate food, and he fucked like a goddamn dream.

With his hands pressed against Marcus’s wide chest, he ran his fingers up through the sprinkling of dark hairs that swirled around his brown nipples and the sexy trail down from his belly button. And despite the strength he could feel in every flex and ripple of muscle in that six-foot frame, Ethan knew he was safe. But that didn’t mean Marcus was safe.

“I’m not excited about you being in danger either,” Ethan said, glaring down at his lover. “But we’re stronger together. You need your sneaky pet spy watching out for you.”

Marcus smiled, some of the tension leaving his face. “I do.”

“Smart man.” Ethan leaned forward and pressed a playful kiss to the tip of Marcus’s nose. He might not be a vampire, but he would find a way to keep his man safe. He was not losing Marcus.

Chapter Twenty-Three

Marcus pushed the doorbell and took a step backward so that he was standing next to Ethan again. He looked down at his lover and smiled. His blond hair was artfully styled off his face and he wore just a deep sapphire blue vest, leaving his muscular arms bare and perfectly accenting the gems in his collar. The black leather pants looked as if they’d been painted onto his body the way they were molded to his every curve and hollow. It was hard to keep his hands off Ethan’s ass.

“If you grab me, there’s going to be no hiding my erection,” Ethan warned in a low voice.

Marcus smirked. “Then everyone will be envious of me. They will know that I have the most beautiful pet who has the most beautiful cock.”

Ethan tilted his head, looking up at Marcus with a knowing smirk. “And if you’re a good boy tonight, you might get fucked by that beautiful cock.”

Marcus fought hard not to adjust himself at that thought. He had to admit that he’d wondered what it would be like to feel Ethan moving in him, his balls slapping against his ass.

But now was not the time for such thoughts. They had come to see Winslow, a member of the American Ministry and the only one who lived within easy driving distance of Marcus. The excuse for the visit was an easy one—there had been an unprovoked attack on Marcus’s home that resulted in the death of a clan member. The Ministry was supposed to be keeping the peace.
