“I will.”

“Promise?” he asks, leaning back to look into my eyes.

“Promise.”

With one soft kiss to my lips, he lets me go. Though, he does give me a little tap to my ass as I head for the door.

I roll my eyes, but I also giggle and think, this man is my husband. How did I get so lucky?

As I head out of our apartment and onto the elevator, an incoming call makes my phone ring from inside my purse, and I pull it out to find an unknown number.

Every once in a while, when Mo tries to call me from La Croisette’s office, I’ll get this same unknown-number business, so I answer it.

“Hello?”

“Hi, is this Sammy Philips?”

“Speaking,” I respond as I step off the elevator.

“Hi, Sammy, this is Natasha Lovingfeld. I’m a reporter with the New York Tribune. Do you have a few moments for me to ask you your thoughts on Cluelessly Yours?”

“Cluelessly Yours?” I question, ironically clueless as to what in the heck that is.

“Brooke Baker’s upcoming novel.”

My sister’s next book is titled Cluelessly Yours? Hell, I didn’t even know she’d managed to get another book written since she released Best Frenemies.

“I would just like to get your thoughts on the book,” Natasha continues. “And whether or not it lived up to your real life.”

Lived up to my real life?

“Oh, and your thoughts on the dedication too,” Natasha adds. “When I read it, it nearly brought tears to my eyes.”

“Brought tears to your eyes?”

“There’s just something so sweet about seeing an author dedicate her entire book to her sister’s love story.”

Brooke dedicated an entire book to my love story?

How am I just finding out about this? And not from my own sister, but from a random journalist I’ve never met?

“Natasha, I’m so sorry, but I’m going to have to call you back,” I state as I pause right at the subway entrance. “Just text me your number, and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.”

I don’t give her any time to respond before hanging up the call, knowing damn well I won’t be calling her about anything. I will, however, call the one person who better be prepared to give me some answers.

“Hey, Sam,” Brooke greets on the second ring. “What’s up?”

“You know, I just got the most interesting call. From a reporter.”

“What? Really?”

“Yeah. A reporter by the name of Natasha Lovingfeld who wanted to know my thoughts on my sister’s latest book.”

“Oh…”

“She also wanted to know what I thought of the dedication. The one that states my sister dedicated an entire book to my love story.”

“That sure is interesting…”

“Brooke!”

“What?”

“What?” I repeat. “I’ll tell you what. You best start fessing up right the F now.”

“So…” She pauses, but when a good five seconds pass, an exasperated breath falls from my lungs.

“Brooke.”

“Okay. Okay,” she responds on a sigh. “So, I might’ve written an entire book about Noah’s and your love story.”

“Brooke!”

“I guess you can kind of…sort of…consider this my way of getting back at you for the whole not-inviting-me-to-your-wedding thing.”

My eyes are one revelation away from popping out of my eye sockets. “You did this for revenge?”

“Well, that, and the fact that your story was too good not to write about!”

“Oh my God, you’re insane!”

“But don’t worry, I changed the names,” she quickly adds, and I grit my teeth.

“Send me a copy right now.”

“Are you sure you—”

“Brooke,” I cut her off with a tense jaw. “Send me a copy right now.”

“Fine. Fine. Sending it to your email now.”

I don’t even bother with a response. Instead, I hang up the phone and jog down the stairs to hop on the subway before I end up late to work because my sister is a freaking psycho.

By the time my inbox chimes with a new email from Brooke, I’m walking into La Croisette with five minutes to spare.

I don’t waste any time, heading into the back office to download the latest and greatest from Brooke Baker, plopping into the leather desk chair as I do. The instant my download is complete, my Kindle is locked and loaded with Cluelessly Yours.

When I open up the first page, the dedication sits front and center.

“To the love story of my sister Sammy Baker-Philips and my brother-in-law Dr. Noah Philips.”

And I can’t decide if I should laugh or cry. Sure, she may’ve changed the character names in the book, but the freaking dedication may as well include my home address and social security number!

My sister, ladies and gentlemen, don’t let her know too much about your life, or her crazy-writer ass will put you in one of her books…without your permission.

I only make it ten pages into Sara and Nolan’s love story before I realize a few things:

Number one: My sister is an amazing writer.

Number two: Sara and Nolan’s love story already has me hooked, and I lived it.
