“Torin—”

“And you, Peaches? You’re everything that’s good. You are way out of my league. I’ll never be able to be the man you deserve.”

“That’s just bullshit, and you know it. If you’re going to break someone’s heart, at least be man enough to own up to it.”

“It’s not bullshit. It’s the God’s honest truth. You’re going to be a damn doctor. What could you want with a man like me?”

“Everything!” she snaps. “I wanted everything. Mom’s a doctor. Jesus, do you even know how my parents met? I never once looked at you and saw anything other than the man I wanted for my own.”

I growl under my breath. Standing fully, I reach over, picking Skylar up and throwing her over my shoulder. “What are you doing?” she screeches.

“I’m going to take you back to the club and find something to put in that damn mouth of yours that will keep you from yelling at me.”

“You can try it, but I’ll bite it off if you do,” she threatens.

I have no doubt the woman would do it either. She already had me icing my junk once. It’s clear that I’m not going to win my woman back easily. She’s going to fight me tooth and nail. I should probably warn her I love a challenge and she’s just given me the biggest one I’ve ever had to face.

“Challenge accepted, Peaches,” I respond. She has no idea I’m talking to myself more than to her. I’m not giving up. She will not be able to push me away. I’m not giving her up. I’ll fight anyone to keep her—even if that means fighting Skylar herself.

My woman will find out that I’m more than up for the challenge.

Chapter 22

Joker

“Hey, Joker,” Freeze yells out, as I storm through the front door, my woman draped over my shoulder.

I’m still angry, even though I don’t truly have a right to be. Skylar is entitled to everything she’s feeling right now. I knew claiming her wouldn’t be easy—not after the last three years. I guess I thought she would listen to why I made the choices I did. Even she had to admit that she was too young for what I wanted from her. Hell, I had no right to be thinking of her at all. If her family had found out, Breaker would have probably killed me. I knew that, but that wasn’t the reason I held back. I wanted Skylar to achieve all her dreams, to live the life that she always wanted. It was no secret in the club that Bull’s youngest daughter was destined to have a big life. She excelled at everything she touched. The girl was head of her class in high school and had already taken college classes toward her goal of being a doctor. Bull was always bragging about how she was graduating with honors and was on the Dean’s list for college too. He even told us men that his daughter had received offers from some of the biggest colleges out there. He expected her to go to John Hopkins University in Maryland. She had received a full ride to the prestigious school. It was shocking as hell when she turned it all down to attend a college that was somewhat close to home. I was secretly glad. I knew she could never be mine, but having her close meant I could see her occasionally—which would be equal parts of heaven and hell.

Killer is the only one who knows how I feel about Skylar. He used to call me an idiot and tell me I should just come clean before I bury myself in too big of a hole to come out of. He warned me that one day I’d hurt her so much that I’d never have a chance to claim what is rightfully mine. I ignored him because I never thought Skylar could be mine. Now, I’m tasting the regret of my actions. I just hope I can break through to her and somehow get her to forgive me.

“I take it the date didn’t go well?” Anarchy adds, pulling me out of my thoughts.

His voice is dripping with laughter. It makes me want to hit him. There’s not a damn thing funny about any of this. Skylar has my life in her hands. She’s all I want. Without her, I might as well give up. Now that I’ve tasted her, I can’t go back to my old life. I don’t want to. I don’t care if that makes me sound like a sad sack of shit. It’s the fucking truth. She’s become so important to me within just a matter of days. I need her to breathe. Skylar is probably clueless to just how deep I’m in this with her. She has no idea how obsessed I am, but she will. It will probably scare the shit out of her.
