Once our breathing and heart rates return to normal, Cohen carries me into the bathroom to clean up.

He turns on the shower and steps under the warm spray before turning me around and pulling me in front of his body. “Did Shawna go down without a fight?” I ask him as he slowly runs a soapy loofah over my protruding stomach.

“Nope.” He laughs against my back. “Your mini-me demanded three stories and a foot rub before she finally turned it off.” How adorable. A while back, I came home after a long day at the brewery with throbbing feet and asked Cohen for a foot rub in front of our very observant three-year-old. After that, she’s been asking for daily foot rubs for her “aching” feet.

“That’s my girl.” Strong-willed doesn’t even begin to describe our daughter. She knows she has her daddy wrapped tight around her little finger and uses it to her best advantage.

“You say that now, but wait until she realizes she has to share our attention with another little human being,” Cohen reminds me. It’s been a concern since I found out about this little one.

“I’m betting she’ll take it in stride.”

“Uh-huh.” My husband doesn’t have the same faith I do. “I’ll believe that when I see it.”

We finish showering and I’m drying off when I feel a large gush of water running down my legs. “Freaking finally.” I almost bounce with excitement as I call to Cohen, “It worked!”

My husband sticks his head in the door and instantly notices the large puddle under my feet. “I’ll call Stacy and tell her to get her ass over here. Are you okay to dress yourself?”

“I’m fine,” I reassure him as he rushes off to call my friend. Stacy has been on call, ready to rush over and babysit Shawna for us.

It only takes me a minute to throw on the outfit I laid out a few hours ago.

After Stacy arrives, Cohen rushes me to the hospital. We have a much easier labor this time around, and our little boy is born two hours later.

With his tuft of dark red hair and bright green eyes, it’s easy to see we ended up with another mini-me. “I guess we’re going to have to try again to get one that looks like you,” I tell Cohen as he sits on the side of my hospital bed with Jaxon tucked in tight against his chest.

“I’m all for trying again, but I hope all our children look just like you.”

Tears fill my eyes and I brush them away while cursing the pregnancy hormones that are still making me so weepy.

“I love you, Cohen.”

“I love you, too, speed demon. Why don’t you settle back and take a nap while I spend some time with this little guy?”

Exhaustion overtakes me, and there’s no way I can turn down his generous offer. As my eyes drift closed, I realize how lucky I am.

Life couldn’t get any better.
