Feeling needy and excited, I shake him awake and then roll him onto his back and slide my thighs on either side of him. Leaning down, I brush my lips against his. “Wake up, sleeping beauty…” When he squeezes his eyes closed tighter, I lick his cheek. “I know you’re pretending.”
His eyes are still closed, but he grins. “I’m just waiting to see what else you’re going to do to wake me up.”
I press my panties against his erection and am rewarded with a deep groan into my mouth.
Our kiss deepens, becomes hotter, and before I know what’s happening, my panties are off, and I’m riding him.
“Yeah, I’m totally expecting this all the time now,” he rasps.
“You’re so greedy.”
“Only because you’re so fucking sexy, and I can’t get enough of you.” His smile fades with the approach of his early morning orgasm. “I think this one is going to be fast.”
I clench him tight, and he groans. “Is this your plan? Start the day by having your way with me? Because if it is, I’m totally all for it.”
I lean down and kiss him, tightening my muscles around him like a vice. “Less talk, more moaning.”
Enjoying the way his powerful body succumbs to what I am doing, I ride him lazily. The way he bites down on his lips and groans as I milk him with every movement of my hips has me heady with lust.
Doc starts to pant and moan my name. His eyes lose focus, and his face ripples as ecstasy passes over him. His chest rises and falls rapidly. He’s going to come, but as I watch him, an unexpected rush of warmth spreads out from my core, and my orgasm takes me by surprise.
“Oh, God,” I cry out. My palms slap to his chest, and I increase the speed of my hips as my entire body shudders with its sweet release.
Shaking, I collapse against him.
“You’re right,” I finally say. “This is exactly how we should start the day.”
He gives me a dimpled grin that slays me. “If you insist.”
Climbing off him, I head to the bathroom, where I clean up and dress, then brush my teeth.
A few minutes later, Doc joins me and sets about brushing his. He doesn’t say anything, but he doesn’t need to. Our eyes meet in the mirror over the basin, and they say it all.
We’ve found something special, and no matter what happens, he’s got my back.
Doc leaves the bathroom before me, and when I join him in the bedroom, he’s dressed in jeans and a tight black T-shirt that strains over his broad chest.
He gives me a smile that turns my insides to mush.
“Come on,” he says, taking my hand. “Let’s go see our baby.”
Our baby.
Doc never says anything about the possibility of it being Otto’s, and if he ever thinks about it, he never mentions it. It’s always our baby. I don’t doubt his silence is because of me and my feelings because that’s Doc. But I want him to know that it’s okay to think about it, and if he ever needs to talk, he can talk to me about it.
I stop walking, and it yanks him to a halt.
“What’s wrong?”
“Do you ever think about it?” I ask.
He looks puzzled. “About what?”
“If this baby isn’t yours.” The words hurt to say, and my stomach churns at the thought. “It’s okay if you have doubts. If ever you need to talk about it, I—”
He cuts me off by stepping closer, towering over me like a human shield of thick muscle and strength, and takes my face in his big hands. His eyes are gentle but strong and fierce as they look into mine. “Regardless of the DNA he has, he’s our baby, Lily… yours and mine. I decided that the moment you told me what happened to you in the Inferno camp. So no, I don’t wonder if he’s mine because I already know he is.”
His words make me want to cry, but I don’t because he leans down and kisses me softly, stealing my tears and doubts with the gentle brush of his lips against mine.
“Why do you say all the right things?” I ask when the kiss ends.
“Because I’m impossibly charming.” He grins and winks, then takes my hand again.
Down in his clinic, he sets up the ultrasound machine while I lay on the examination table and pull up my shirt. I don’t know the exact date of conception, but I estimate that I’m almost five months along. In place of my usually flat belly, there is a small round pot belly that I can’t help but touch every time I notice it.
Doc pulls his saddle seat across the linoleum floor to sit beside me and holds up a plastic bottle. “You ready for this? You know it’s going to be cold.”
