“How many times do you think we should pass this fountain before you realize I’m right?” I ask.

Willow has been driving me crazy. I’m all about winning, but she refuses to take my advice. If I say go left, she goes right. If I suggest looking down, she looks up. If I try to walk, she wants to run.

We’ve been at this for almost two hours and have only found a white dress, a box of chocolates, and a camera. We still need to find a handkerchief, a pink balloon, a sign with the word hug on it, a bowtie, a cake, and something blue.

“Look, there’s a group of dressed-up people over there. Maybe one of them is wearing a bowtie,” I say, pointing to the other side of the street.

“Doubtful. How about we say the sky is blue?” she asks.

I lean against the brick of the casino we’re in front of and cross my arms. “Sure, Willow, give the most obvious and ridiculous answer. I honestly don’t care anymore.”

She plants her hands on her hips and shakes her head. “Brock, why are you making this more difficult?”

I give a humorless laugh and rest my head back. “Believe what you want. Three groups are back at the hotel, so what’s the point in continuing?”

She leans against the wall next to me and sighs. “It’s supposed to be fun. If you have a fun partner, anyway.”

I look at her and raise an eyebrow. “Was Lake fun?”

“What does that have to do with this?”

I shrug but keep staring at her. “When Tripp mentioned his name you tensed next to me. Why do you do that?”

She sighs and drops her gaze. “It’s not like that. I don’t want him or anything. I tensed up because even just hearing his name pisses me off.” She lifts her eyes and gives a half grin when she meets mine. “I want to make him jealous, but not because I want him back. I just want to have the satisfaction of him realizing he made a mistake.”

I smile, nodding my head. “That might be one of the coolest things you’ve ever said.”

“What?” she asks, laughing.

“You want to make him jealous just so you can say eat your heart out while flipping him off. That’s something I can get behind.”

“Umm okay, not exactly what I was thinking but pretty much,” she says.

“Okay,” I say, pushing off the wall. “Let’s go back to the casino and make him see red.”

She giggles and starts walking with me. “But no getting drunk.”

“Deal.”

Chapter 7

Willow

Once we head back to the hotel everyone is already there. I hold up the items we did happen to find, and give Hartford a crooked smile.

“We tried,” I say to her. “I feel like Brock and I fought the entire time.” As soon as the words leave my mouth I realize my faux pas.

We’re supposed to be dating. We should be in that fun and new stage of every relationship. The honeymoon phase, and here I am telling Hartford we’ve been fighting.

“Fighting?” Hartford asks as she lifts a brow.

I cough, and wrap my arms around Brock. “We do that sometimes,” I say in a rush, like it’s no big deal.

“We call it foreplay,” Brock says, coming to my rescue.

When Brock understood about Lake, it changed my mind about Brock in a few ways. He’s not the brute I always thought he was. He actually does have a heart beating somewhere behind that perfectly carved chest.

Why does Brock have to be so stacked with muscles? Like he’s got muscles in places I didn’t even think were possible. And his smile. Ah, melt.

I’ve always thought Brock has a perfect smile, even though I’ve never seen it aimed at me much before.

Until today. When I told him why I wanted to make Lake jealous. Brock smiled, and the sight of it nearly knocked me on my ass.

Hartford smiles, and we join everyone as they chatter about where they found the various items. Brock keeps his arm around my waist, and as soon as he spots Lake standing near Tripp, he moves us in that direction.

“We didn’t win,” Tripp tells us, a smirk across his lips.

Brock nods at him. “We got a little busy, and decided to head to our room instead of look for items.”

My eyes widen as Lake’s blue eyes shoot to mine.

“You were having sex while you were supposed to be playing a game?” Lake sounds perturbed. I know that tone of voice, and he thinks what we were doing was stupid.

I fluff my hair, pretending it got a bit unruly from romping around with Brock. “We were playing our own little game.”

Brock’s eyes meet mine. “I think I won that game, right?” His eyebrows rise a little. “Four times? I was able to get you to…ya know…four times. Must be some record.” And oh my god, Brock turns his attention to Lake.
