I laugh. “Are you okay?”

“Never been better.”

I lean onto his chest. “Ever been to Antigua?”

“Erm, no. You?”

“How about we make it our first trip as a threesome?”

He narrows his eyes. “Okay. Is there a reason to go there?”

“I’ve always wanted to go back. It feels like a good place to start the rest of my life.”

“I’ll follow you wherever you want to go.” His eyes are dark and soulful. The way he looks at me sends shivers down my spine.

I spot my phone, discarded next to me, and check the time. “It’s eleven thirty,” I say, hitching a leg over his and sitting astride him. I circle my hips and feel him jerk beneath me. I tip my head back, hoping he’s ready for more. “I can’t get enough of you.”

“My alarm will go off at eleven fifty,” he says.

I lift up and grab the base of his cock.

“Condom!” he shouts, and I freeze. The only thing we didn’t talk about tonight was kids.

Our eyes catch, and he immediately knows what I’m thinking. “I’m going to get you pregnant,” he says. “But not yet. Two kids under two sounds like it might be a lot of work.”

I laugh, half-relieved, half-terrified, and grab a condom packet.

“You’re completely right. But I do want—”

“As many as you want,” he says. “I’ll love each one of them.”

Works for me.

He groans as I roll on the condom.

I hold my breath as I slide down onto him. His fingers dig into my hips like he’s worried I might change my mind and move away.

As if.

“So deep like this,” I mutter. I start to move and my limbs lose all coordination. My body goes loose and languid.

“It’s too much, baby, isn’t it? Too good.” He chuckles and leans me forward slightly as he thrusts up. “Such good intentions of fucking me. I really appreciate the effort. But know that it’s always going to be me fucking you. That’s how we work best together.”

I cry out at his words, at the feel of his cock pressing into me, his hands either side of my waist, holding me in place. The sound of thunder in the distance.

He slams into me over and over and over, and I can barely keep from collapsing on his chest.

“Fuck,” he hisses, slamming into me again. His hands move to my elbows now, holding me up, trying to keep me in place so we can both get to where we’re headed. “You’re so fucking sexy,” he says.

His words tip me over the edge.

Dax.

He’s the only man who’s ever made me completely vulnerable like this, and I love him for it.

THIRTY-NINE

Dax

The alarm screeching from my phone makes Eira jump in my arms. I press a kiss to her temple and release her from where we’re lying boneless and exhausted.

“I won’t be long.” As I pull on my jeans, all I can think is, thank god she came back to me. Thank god she’s here. I’ve never seen myself with a woman before, not for the long term. But Guinevere has shifted everything. My life is different to how it was, and so is what I want from it. My research was always at the core of my identity, but now it’s like an orbiting moon—important, but it’s not the sun. Guinevere and Eira are what set my world in motion. I need their pull, their warmth, their presence to exist.

All the lights are off in Jacob’s place. As I peer into the crib, Guinevere is wide awake like she’s been waiting for me. As if she’s too excited to sleep because she wants to know if I managed to win Eira round.

“She’s ours,” I whisper. “She came back to us.”

She kicks and gives me a goofy grin like she’s just as relieved as I am. I scoop her up in a blanket.

“Hey,” Jacob says, wandering into the hall. “Everything go okay?”

“Yup,” I say. “Great.”

“Good talk,” Jacob says.

“It’s nearly midnight and Guinevere is going to get crabby if I dawdle. I can catch up with you tomorrow, seeing as you’re so invested.”

“Sue me for wanting to know if my baby brother enjoyed a date with the woman he’s been waiting for his whole life.”

My gaze darts to his.

“What?” He shrugs. “Just telling the truth. Was obvious in Norfolk. I’m glad she’s taken pity on you. Seems like she’s more than you deserve.”

I roll my eyes. “She is.”

Jacob nods. “Good for you.”

For a fleeting second, I wonder if Jacob has even a fraction of the need to protect me as Eira does for her brother and sister. “Thanks Jacob,” I say, my voice softer. “You’re a good brother.”

“Yeah?” he asks. “That’s because you’re terrible, so I have to make up for it.”

I grin at him and disappear over the road with Guinevere.

When I’ve finished locking the doors, I can hear the shower going. I settle Guinevere in her DockATot while I get her milk. As I turn, out of the corner of my eye, my gaze lands on the bottle right next to her.
