“Absolutely,” I replied before following him out the door, enjoying the breeze that whipped through the air. I trudged through the grass toward a large cattle shed where fifty or so cows were lingering. “You guys help Ryder with the ranch?”

Jesse nodded as he walked along the outside of the shed, passing by large bales of hay and some sort of machine on wheels that I wasn’t familiar with hooked up to a tractor.

“He’s pretty much said this place is our home too. As long as we respect it, we can stay and visit anytime we want,” Jesse explained as he paused near the tractor. “So, we help out on the ranch as a thank you.”

I smiled a little and nodded. It seemed like they were a tight knit group of friends. I had seen so many bands fall apart because of personal disagreements, but I didn’t see that happening for these guys who had their lives so intertwined together.

“That’s nice of you,” I replied.

Jesse patted the red machine, which had an opening on the top and a chute on one side.

“Now, I’m going to teach you how to feed the cattle,” he said with a grin on his face.

I let out a nervous laugh as I stepped closer to him, my eyes sweeping over his arms and hands. He had really nice, defined hands. Today, he wore a black shirt with an unbuttoned, dark blue, long-sleeved shirt on top with the sleeves rolled up, along with jeans and boots.

“I’ve been here more times than I can count, but I’ve never watched him or his parents feed the cows,” I admitted.

“Well, this is a feed mixer wagon. We use it to break down the hay bales,” Jesse explained as he gestured to the machine. He then pointed to the cattle shed, whose exterior was only a few railings where he was pointing. “It’ll shoot all of the broken down hay into the feeding area there for the cows to eat on.”

“Okay, easy enough,” I replied as I crossed my arms over my white tank top.

Jesse’s eyes moved over me before he chuckled.

“You wore white on a ranch, honey?” he laughed, before starting the tractor and hopping back down to the ground.

I looked down at my tank top and skinny jeans, my cheeks flushing. I didn’t exactly have clothes for the ranch in my closet. I just grabbed the most casual clothes I had.

“If I get dirty, that’ll be on you,” I replied, trying to play off my embarrassment with cockiness. When the words left my mouth, I wanted to dig a hole and bury myself in it. All I wanted was to not make myself look like a fool in front of these guys, but they made me stumble and blush like crazy because they were so damn smooth and charming in their own ways.

“Noted,” Jesse said with a smirk on his face. He then got one of the hay bales loaded into the feed mixer with the help of a lift, and I watched from the side with a heavily thudding heart. His arms flexed with every movement, and I wished that he would take his buttoned shirt off so that I could stare a little more. At least he was too busy to catch me right now.

In New York, there were all sorts of models, attractive actors, charming singers, and alluring executives. However, hardly any of them ever really caught my eye. So many of them were stuck-up or only used me for my rising fame. They were selfish.

But these guys were so welcoming. Some were just bolder about it than others. However, I didn’t mind the variety. It always seemed like everyone was the same here back when I was a kid.

“Then, I pull the mixer with the tractor to let it shoot the churned up hay into the feeding area,” Jesse said as he hopped up into the seat of the tractor.

The sound of my heartbeat filled my head as I was struck with a jolt of boldness.

“Can I help?” I asked.

Even Jesse looked a bit surprised, but his expression melted away into one of eagerness.

“Absolutely,” he replied as he leaned down to extend his hand out to me.

I took it and let him pull me up into the tractor. There was only one seat, but he directed me onto his lap with ease. Heat rolled through me as he kept his hand on my hip, his words sounding muffled in my head.

Before I knew it, we were driving alongside the cattle shed, unloading hay through the rails for the cows to eat. I planted my feet as much as I could, but the vibrations from the tractor sparked some friction between our bodies.

“Take control.”

My eyes shot wide open as I pitched a look over my shoulder at him.
