Where is Shane?

A toilet flushed, and then I heard footsteps. Big, heavy ones.

Guess I knew what or who had woken me. When had I actually gone to bed? Maybe four?

I heard the bathroom door open, and I looked for the bedroom door.

After a moment it opened, and everything was still dark beyond. They must’ve had blackout shades. Shane came in.

That’s when it hit me, and I bolted upright. “Oh no, you don’t.”

My body temperature shot up as my eyes traveled over the muscles moving under his very tattooed skin. All those muscles. I’d thought the man was lean. I was wrong. I was remembering sitting behind him on his bike, my body plastered against his, my thighs hugging his, and I gulped. He wasn’t lean. He was muscle, just pure muscle.

All man. Holy, all man.

I was too old to be feeling this way. I didn’t know I still had this in me. I felt hot and bothered like… I didn’t know, because this wasn’t a schoolgirl kind of feeling. This was much more—much, much more. I guess Foley hadn’t totally broken me.

“Don’t what?” Shane rasped. I heard his exhaustion, but there were other emotions too. Tension? Wariness?

“You can’t sleep here.”

“Bullshit. I ain’t sleeping anywhere else.” He moved to the side of the bed.

Hearing his determination, I decided to pick my battles. This wasn’t one of them. Grabbing my pillow, I sat up to leave as he got in bed, but he snaked an arm around my waist and pulled me back.

“Nope.”

“What?” I tensed.

He pulled me closer to him. “Nope.”

“Get off me.”

His arm slid lower.

My eyes bugged out. “Fine. You want to sleep in the bed, I’ll go out there.”

“Nope.”

Then he tucked me under him and lowered his head to the crook of my shoulder. It was a very firm snuggle.

I had no idea how to digest this. “Shane.”

“I’m tired.”

“You’re not hearing me.” I poked him in the arm.

He snorted into my neck. “You’re not feeling me, babe.”

Feeling?

“Wha—”

He ground his hips into me from behind.

I felt him now. Instant sauna temperatures in here. Instant. I almost groaned, because now I was remembering the bike and how I’d wanted to touch him then. This was starting to feel like the hardest thing I’d ever do because I needed to resist him. He had too much control over me, and it was all happening way too fast.

“Shane!” I sunk my nails into his arm, hoping to peel him off, but he just ignored me. I was pretty sure I broke the skin too. “Hey.”

“Didn’t know you were into that, but we can play around. I’m okay with that.”

Okay with—I shoved his arm off me and sat up. I didn’t move to get off the bed. I knew where I’d end up if I did that, but I looked down at him, trying for scolding, yet not totally knowing why. “This—”

He flipped us so I was on my back and he hovered above me. His hand slid around the side of my neck and held me there, in his palm. “Things accelerated with us in your motel room. Usually—” He stopped himself, shaking his head. “There’s no usually about this. I tried to walk away from you in the grocery store, and I couldn’t. Things changed, and I’m thinking we’ve got a pattern here. There ain’t no normal for you and me, and babe, there is a you and me.”

I opened my mouth to argue, but I closed it as he lowered his hips up and into me. I felt what was between us, and I fought to keep from squirming, wanting to push back against him. Damn. That felt good. So good.

Every nerve receptor I had was turned on. I had no idea how to handle any of this, but in the meantime, Shane had gone quiet, one of his eyebrows raised.

He grinned. “You might not think you’re moving, but, babe, you are.” He pushed up into me again, and I let out a loud groan, my eyes closing.

Holy. Damn!

“Yeah.” His word came out as a whisper, and I felt him lower his head, his nose grazing the side of my cheek. “I want you something fierce, but I need sleep, and I’m aware you need some type of explanation. For now, for the next few hours, can we ignore what we both want to do to each other and sleep?”

I opened my eyes. Sleep with him? I didn’t know if I could. “I think I might still be drunk.”

He snorted a laugh, moving to lie beside me again, still holding me close. “Figured. I saw the wine bottle on the counter—saw it was empty too.”

Something about that statement made me embarrassed, but his arm came over me, and he rested a hand on my hip. He tugged me against him once more, one of his legs sliding between mine, and he moved it up, pressing right there, right where I could ride him to my climax.
