“Thank you for asking.” His voice takes on a lower tone. “Besides Rook and Holden, no one has ever asked me about it.”

“Really?” I don’t try and hide the surprise in my voice.

“Really.” He shakes his head. “To be honest, I’m not sure I would have wanted to explain it to anyone, other than my family, of course. It’s a very personal thing.”

That sends my pulse racing. “I’m honored that you trust me enough to tell me.”

“I trust you with my life, Abigail.” He whispers, his hand jumping to cup my cheek. “I don’t know why, but I do.”

I’m tempted to crack a joke about lawyer-client privilege, but I don’t. I can’t ruin this moment by letting my head take over my heart.

“Come to bed with me.” He kisses me softly on the lips. “Let me show you how much I missed you this weekend.”

“You were only gone for two days,” I point out.

“Two very long days,” he stresses with a heavy exhale. “I’ve been aching for you since the last time I saw you. End that torture now.”

CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT

Declan

She tastes like peppermint with a hint of wine beneath that.

I kiss her slowly, tenderly as I work to free each button on the blouse she’s wearing.

I want to wrap my teeth around one of the barbells in her nipples, but savoring her taste is ecstasy.

I know I only have her for a few hours before she’ll sneak out and head back home.

“You like taking it slow,” she whispers against my lips.

“Do you blame me?”

That sparks a smile from within her. “Sweet talker.”

I pull back so I can gaze into her hazel eyes. “Is that how you see me?”

“Sweet talker,” she repeats. “Or a dirty talker.”

I can’t help but grin. “What’s a man to do when his lover’s pussy is perfect for him? You were made for me, Abigail.”

The words reach beyond the scope of what we agreed to. I didn’t push for more than being exclusive in terms of fucking, but I feel more for her than that.

I like her a hell of a lot. I want more time with her than that spent at work or in bed.

She slides her blouse from her shoulders to reveal a black bra. Her eyes never leave my face, but the temptation to gaze down is too much for me, so I give in to it.

“The clasp is on the front,” she says.

I take that as an invitation and snap it open. Her full tits spill out, pulling a growl from somewhere deep inside of me.

“Jesus,” I mutter. “You’re so goddamn beautiful.”

“So are you.” Her gaze skims my chest. “I’ve never been with a man like you before.”

I don’t press for details because I want to check every box she has for the ‘ideal man.’ I want to be her physical dream come true. I need to be the guy she can rely on in every way imaginable, and I long to be the one man she can’t get enough of, whether that’s for a good fuck or a meaningful conversation that lasts for hours.

I cup one of her breasts in my hand. “I can say the same about you. You’re the most remarkable woman I’ve ever met.”

Even in my dimly lit bedroom, I can spot the blush of pink as it spreads across her cheeks.

“Thank you,” she whispers.

I want to stress that I mean it, and they’re not just words I spit out because I’m about to toss her on my bed.

A small sigh escapes her when I pinch two fingers around the barbell in her left nipple.

“Have you ever gotten off from just this?” I ask in a rasp. “From nipple play?”

Her eyes find mine, and she answers with a faint shake of her head.

“Tonight you will,” I promise because I want to give her an experience she’s never had.

She laughs. “I believe you.”

“Good.” My hands drop to the button on the front of her jeans. “Let’s lose these. I plan on making the most of the next few hours.”

“By making me come?” she asks in barely more than a whisper.

I lean forward to kiss her softly. “Over and over again.”

Three hours later, I roll over to find Abby buttoning her blouse. “You’re running away.”

The gruff tone of my voice sends her gaze in my direction. “You sound extra sexy right now.”

I huff out a laugh. “I’ll take that as a compliment.”

“Good.” She finishes with the last button. “Because it is.”

I swing my legs over the side of the bed and push to my feet. “I’ll walk you down.”

“No,” she says. “Stay in bed, Declan.”

I shake my head. “I’m walking you down, Abigail.”

She lets out a noise that sounds like a sigh of frustration with a hint of amusement wrapped around it. “Always the gentleman.”

I put on my boxer briefs before tugging on a pair of jeans that are draped over the bench at the foot of my bed. “You think I’m a gentleman?”
