Disdain coats Rex’s name as it leaves Declan’s tongue.

I’d label that as jealousy, but it’s a laughable conclusion considering that the extent of our relationship will consist of a one-night stand. Declan strikes me as the type of man who loves the hunt, but he moves on once he’s bedded his prey.

“It doesn’t matter,” I say with a whip of my hand in the air.

“Why?” he presses. “I’m curious, Abigail.”

Frustrated that we’re spending this much time on a man who is part of my past, I sigh. “He sucked in bed.”

He throws his head back and lets out a rumble of laughter.

The sound shoots right through me. It’s so masculine and deep.

His laughter fades as he studies my face. “Nothing is more exciting than a woman who knows what she wants.”

“I know what I want,” I say with a tone that I hope veils my self-doubt.

For the most part, I do know what I want, but I’m still learning about myself, so my ideal life is a moving target that I have yet to hit.

His hand drifts down my neck to my shoulder. His fingertips play with the strap on my dress. “Let’s get you out of this so I can give you everything you want and more.”

CHAPTER SIX

Abby

“You’re spending too much time on that zipper.” I huff out a laugh that I hope hides the desperation I feel.

Declan’s deep, rough chuckle echoes through the room. “What joy is there in a gift of this magnitude if you don’t take your time unwrapping it?”

I glance back, and up so my gaze meets his. “Listen to you waxing poetic.”

“You were expecting something else?” He smiles wickedly.

His mouth on any part of me is what I was expecting, but so far, all I’ve gotten is the brush of his lips against my palm when he took my hand to lead me to his bedroom.

When we rounded the corner and entered the room, I was speechless yet again.

Everything in this massive room exudes masculinity, from the gray linens on the bed to the dark wooden furnishings.

His fingertips feather over my neck as he pushes my hair aside. “You smell incredible.”

“My stepsister developed the perfume I wear,” I rush the words out. “She’s a chemist.”

He drops his head to run his lips over the skin he just exposed below my hairline. “Thank her for me.”

I smile. “I will.”

The smile morphs into an open-mouthed sigh when I finally feel the gentle pull of the zipper on the back of the gown.

“No bra,” he whispers.

“No bra,” I repeat, knowing that means he’ll see my bare tits in the next twenty seconds.

Thank goodness I adore them as much as I do.

I’m curvy in a way I’ve come to love. For a long time, I wanted to be rail thin, but as soon as I started having sex, I felt empowered by the shape of my body. I’m proud of it. My breasts are natural and large enough to fit perfectly in the palm of a man like Declan. My waist is small, but my hips are my shining glory. There’s no mistaking that I’m the definition of an hourglass figure.

His large hands push the gown from my shoulders, past my waist, and beyond my hips, until it settles on the floor.

The only thing I’m wearing is a black lace thong. I didn’t do that for anyone’s benefit but my own. It’s a new piece of lingerie that I couldn’t wait to wear, so I didn’t. I slipped into it before I stepped into the princess get-up.

“You’re about to take my breath away.”

I smile, even though I know he can’t see my expression. “I thought I already did that.”

“Time and time again,” he says in a low tone. “Turn around.”

I do it quickly and with confidence. I don’t hide anything.

He takes a step back to take me in. “Jesus.”

A light laugh flows from me. “I take it that you like what you see.”

“Like?” His chuckle fills the silence. “I fucking love it. You didn’t strike me as a barbells-in-the-nipples type of girl.”

I stroke a fingertip over one of the piercings I got years ago on a whim. I like how they look, but I’ve come to realize it’s the way they feel that I love, particularly when I’m with a man who understands how to use them for my pleasure and his.

“Woman,” I subtly correct him.

“Indeed.” His lips curve into a grin. “A woman I can’t wait to fuck.”

The raw shamelessness in those words sends me back half a step.

“Show me,” he demands with intensity edging his tone. “Show me everything.”

I don’t hesitate. I slide the panties off, grateful I got waxed two days ago.

His gaze falls to the apex between my thighs. “I haven’t stopped thinking about what you looked like beneath those prim and proper skirts or those tight dresses you wear. I’ve been aching to see you.”
