“We’re good.”
I gave him a nod, then looked back at my brothers and was pleased to see that they were locked and loaded. Like me, their thirst for revenge had them eager to get inside. With them following closely behind, I made my way up to the door.
I stopped and looked in the window, and just as I expected, there were two guys stationed at each entrance, making it impossible for us to get inside unnoticed. I wasn’t about to let that stop me, especially when I spotted Ruben at one of the back tables. He was laughing and drinking a beer, and just the sight of him had my blood boiling.
I took another quick scan of the bar, then turned back to Seven as I announced, “Change of plan.”
“What do you need me to do?”
“Nothing.” I reached into my back pocket and grabbed a second clip. “Just hold tight until I give you the signal.”
He nodded, and he and the others watched as I slammed the butt of my gun against the window. As soon as the glass shattered, I started shooting, killing the two guards at the front, then moved to the two in the back. I was still shooting when I heard Seven shout, “Damn, brother. Didn’t know you were gonna play it like that.”
“You gonna help me out or what?”
“Waiting on you to give me the signal.”
“I just gave it.”
“We got you, brother.”
I was still firing off at the window when Seven and the others positioned themselves at the door. I gave him a nod and covered them as they made their way inside. I quickly followed, and it was instant mayhem.
Bullets whipped through the room—some came a little too close, but I was too cranked up on adrenaline to care. Like a man possessed, I continued to charge further into the room, firing off round after round as I took out anyone who was still breathing.
With each body that dropped dead to the ground, I gained a sense of satisfaction, and that satisfaction grew even stronger when I spotted Ruben on the floor. He was face down and dragging himself across the floor. I was considering how I was going to get to him when silence fell over the room. The shooting had stopped just as quickly as it had started.
I glanced around the room, and we were the only ones standing. It was done. I was in the clear, so I stormed over to Ruben and planted my feet in his path. Panic marked his face as he looked up at me and pleaded, “Come on, man. Just finish me off.”
“And what would be the fun in that?”
I could’ve pulled the trigger and ended it right there, but when I thought about what he and his boys had done to Amy, and then to Beckett, I just couldn’t do it. He deserved to hurt the way he’d made Beckett hurt for all those months, and I was going to make sure that he did.
I knelt down as I snarled, “You and I are going to spend some quality time together. But don’t worry. I’m gonna get you patched up first.” I gave him a wink. “Wouldn’t want you to go and die on me before we get the party started.”
“It ain’t gotta be like that.”
“Oh, but it does. You killed one of ours, and now, you’re gonna pay for that shit.” I turned to Gash and Jonesy, one of our prospects, and ordered, “Take him to the clubhouse and secure him in one of my rooms. Have Doc check him out and tell him I want him alive when I get back.”
“You got it.”
Even though we were in a rough side of town where the cops don’t always come running, I wasn’t going to take any chances. I turned to Seven and announced, “We need to get the hell out of here.”
He nodded, and then we both quickly gathered the rest of the prospects and a couple brothers and ordered them to torch the place. Even the slightest bit of evidence could be detrimental, so I wasn’t surprised when Prez stopped Duggar and ordered him to stick around and keep an eye on things.
The rest of us headed outside, where we met up with Shep. He was on his laptop, shaking his head as he went through the list of names he’d generated. We needed to know who was left and where to find them, and I hoped he had it all figured out until I heard him say, “I can’t be sure. Even with all their tattoos, it was too hard to identify some of them.”
“Do the best you can.”
He nodded and scanned his screen once more, then said, “Looks like we’ve got four left with two, maybe three, places to hit.”
“Just tell me where we’re going.”
