I reached for her hair, fisting it in my hand as I gave it a gentle tug. Then I thrust forward, driving inside her once again. Unable to control myself, I slowly drew back and slammed into her again, fucking her hard and deep. A carnal moan vibrated through her as she started to rock back, meeting my every thrust. I slid my hand from her hip down between her legs, and feverish cries echoed through the room as I began teasing her clit.

Within seconds, I could feel her muscles start contracting all around me as she pleaded, “Don’t stop.”

She panted wildly, moaning and desperately gripping the sheets as I drove deeper. I felt her body tremble around me, urging me on as I thrust inside her, over and over. Seconds later, she submitted to her release and clamped down around me.

All too soon, I felt my own release building as the muscles in my abdomen and legs grew taut. Unable to stop and savor the moment, I continued to drive into her, and the sound of my body pounding against hers pushed me over the edge. I gave her hair another tug as I held her ass tight to me and came deep inside her.

After several moments, I finally caught my breath and lowered myself down onto the bed next to her. I tossed the condom in the trash beside the bed, then turned to her and teased, “How was that for wounded?”

“That was pretty damn good.” She gave me a playful smirk. “My man doesn’t disappoint.”

“Say it again.”

Confused, she paused for a moment, then smiled and repeated, “My man.”

“Yeah, I like the sound of that.”

She nestled close to me, and I found myself wondering if it was possible for a man like me to have it all. I didn’t deserve it, not after the life I’d lived, but having her there next to me, it certainly felt close.

I might not deserve it, but I damn well was going to hold on to it.

THREE MONTHS LATER

Spring had officially sprung. The daffodils were blooming, along with every flowered tree in a hundred-mile radius, and the grass had gone from a tired brown to a lively green. It was my favorite time of year, which was why I’d decided to take Luna outside and work on the flower beds—or lack thereof. Lawson had a beautiful home with all the basic necessities, but it lacked the flare of a woman’s touch.

He gave me the okay to do whatever I wanted to liven things up, and I’d taken full advantage. It had taken some time. I’d added a picture here and there and changed out a blanket or two. And it had made a subtle but real difference in the place. I thought a few flowers outside might help perk things up, so Luna and I grabbed a few from the local nursery and set out to plant them next to the front steps.

As expected, it didn’t take long for Luna to grow tired of planting, and she moved to the front porch and started playing with her dolls. She played a few minutes before asking, “When can we go inside?”

“It’s a pretty day. Let’s just try to enjoy it, okay?”

“Okay.” Her eyes drifted over to the flowers I’d just planted. “They look nice, Momma.”

“Thank you, punkin. Hopefully, Lawson will think so, too.”

I went back to my planting, and just as I was finishing up, I heard the familiar rumble of Lawson’s motorcycle coming down the street. I quickly gathered all the empty pots and bags and tossed them in the garbage, then swept away the loose dirt. I wanted him to get a good look at everything, so I stepped on the front porch and waited with Luna as he pulled into the driveway.

Once he’d parked, he removed his helmet and said, “Wow. You two have been busy.”

“What do you think?”

“It looks great.” He got off and started over to us. “You did good.”

“It’s not too girly?”

“It’s flowers, babe.”

“You know what I mean.” I motioned my hand over to the little white blooms. “I tried to do simple.”

“And it worked. It looks really good.” He smiled, then leaned down and gave me a quick kiss. “We’ve got a party at the club this weekend.”

“Oh? Any particular reason?”

“Yeah, you could say that.” He smiled but didn’t actually tell me what the reason was. “It’s been a long few weeks. The guys need to blow off some steam. I do, too.”

He was right. There had been a lot going on, especially at the club. I didn’t know what they were dealing with, but Lawson had been on one run after the next. He’d been to Memphis countless times, and then, it was on to Nashville. It wasn’t a terribly long drive, but it had taken its toll. It was understandable that they’d want to cut loose for a bit.
