Apparently not, or if there were, Drake and Billy weren’t big on obeying them. The next thing Drake said convinced me of that.

“I’m gonna Shift,” he told Billy. “I’ll be able to smell her out in my Fur Form a lot more easily.”

“You’re gonna have a hell of a time Shifting back to breed her once you find her when the moon’s not even full though, Drake,” Billy protested.

Drake gave him a wolfish grin.

“Who says I’m gonna Shift back when I go to breed her? I’m gonna take that little slut in my Fur Form!”

“What?” Billy’s eyes got wide in the moonlight. “But Drake—that’s breaking one of the Unbreakable Laws!”

“Aw, who gives a fuck about that? I breed bitches in my Fur Form all the time. I had Tara Kently like that last month and she fucking loved it! She got right down on her hands and knees and opened her pussy for my wolf’s cock.”

“But the Packmaster—” Billy began.

“Who’s gonna tell him, huh?” Drake demanded.

“She might,” Billy said cautiously. “Most bitches don’t wanna get bred by a male in his Fur Form. I’ve heard it hurts ‘cause our equipment gets so much bigger.”

“Yeah, I know!” Drake’s grin widened, looking positively evil. “I’m gonna fuck her with my big, fat wolf dick! Gonna knot her too—shoot my seed in her pussy and knock her up. All in Fur Form.”

“I’ve always wanted to fuck a bitch in Fur Form.” Billy sounded thoughtful now—he was no longer protesting.

“You can’t Shift until we find her,” Drake directed. “You’re gonna hold her down for me while I mount her. You can have her after I’m finished and I don’t give a damn if you fuck her in Fur Form or not.’

“But what if she tells the Packmaster?” Billy asked.

Drake shrugged, his bare shoulders rolling in the moonlight.

“We say she lied. It’s our word against hers—two against one. Besides, our families have been in this Pack for years—Packmaster will take our word over the world of some outsider bitch.”

“But she’s not an outsider, though,” Billy protested. “I heard her parents used to belong to our Pack. And I heard she’s got the blood of the First Wolf in her veins.”

“That’s all a lot of bullshit,” Drake scoffed. “Nobody but the Royals have that anymore and they’re all run off and living in Europe some-fuckin’-where. She ain’t nothing but a stray bitch and I’m gonna breed her like one.”

Then he threw back his head and began to change.

FIFTEEN

I watched in horror from the branches of the bush I was hidden in as Drake transformed into a wolf. It seemed to be an arduous process—maybe because the moon wasn’t completely full—but he did manage it.

First, his face began to lengthen into a wolf’s muzzle, snarling with effort, then his ears moved from the sides to the tops of his head. Light brownish-blonde fur the same color as his hair sprouted all over his body and at the same time, his knees turned backwards and his hands and feet turned into paws.

It was simultaneously the most fascinating and frightening thing I had ever seen in my life. Up until that moment, I had harbored a tiny spark of doubt in my heart. After all, werewolves were the stuff of legends and fairytales, right? No matter what Jack had told me and what I had seen, there was a rational part of my brain which simply refused to believe.

After watching Drake change, I believed all right.

The light brown wolf lifted its muzzle to the night sky and howled, a hungry, angry sound that sent a shiver straight through me. Then it began sniffing the air and, to my horror, headed right for me.

“Get her! Is she in there? Is she?” Billy demanded as the wolf that Drake had become stuck its snout into the bush where I was hiding and began growling.

Gasping with fright, I tried to back away but I was already as far back in the bush as I could get—there was literally nowhere to run. Very well then—I would have to fight.

I broke off one of the sharp branches and when the wolf’s snout got close enough, I jabbed the jagged end of it right up his nose.

Drake’s wolf let out a hurt yelp and leaped backwards, neatly knocking Billy—who had been standing right behind him—off his feet. Billy shouted and fell over with an audible thump.

I took this opportunity to scramble out of the bush and start running again—but I didn’t get far. Just as I was slipping further into the forest, a beefy hand grabbed me by the arm and yanked me backwards.

I gasped as I fell on the ground with an ass-bruising thump and then twisted around to try and kick out at my attacker. My bare foot connected with Billy’s ankle but it didn’t do much good—again I wished I still had shoes on.
