Once I was there, I grabbed the closest towel, which happened to be bright pink, and leveled her with a stare as I watched her wash away the remnants of my ejaculation.
I watched her with so much avid fascination that it took me a while to get to the question that’d been on the tip of my tongue before she’d started washing herself.
“About that house,” I said long moments later. “Do you want to go look at it?”
“Will you rent it to me?” she asked. “When I get that job at the police department, I’ll finally have money to spare.”
“When you get it?” I teased.
Her cheeks heated. “He guaranteed me the job today after he left,” she said. “I just have to go up there for a formal interview, pass a lie detector test, and fill out some paperwork. He was even able to pull up my background check while we were there. As far as he’s concerned, I have the job… so he said.”
“When is all that going down?”
My dick twitched and started to lengthen.
“No.” She shook her head, seeing the way my cock tented the front of the pink towel. “My vagina is off limits for about twenty minutes while I regain my faculties.”
I snorted and informed my dick that it needed to calm down—mentally of course.
I didn’t need to give her any reasons to pull away.
“And to answer your question,” she said as she stepped back into the shower spray, shivering at the icy temperature of the water. “I have to do that really early, at like nine o’clock. I think I’ll take a shower at the gym and head straight over there once I’m done working out. Damn Desi.”
“Tomorrow I have to go to the lawyer,” I said. “I’m going to talk to them about the life insurance claim that they’re still waffling over.” I paused as she stepped out of the shower, too, all hot and wet and mine. “Do you want to get some lunch after you’re all done? I have to be back at the ranch at two to show a horse, but after that, I’m done.”
She looked at me quizzically. “That life insurance problem isn’t fixed yet?”
I shook my head.
“Do you want me to ask my dad?” she asked curiously.
Codie’s father, Takumi, was the sweetest man in the world—at least from what I’d remembered. But get him in a courtroom and he turned into a little bulldog who always won, no matter what he had to do to accomplish that goal.
I frowned.
“How about you let me see what the lawyer says tomorrow.” I nodded my head. “Then, if I don’t like what he has to say, then I might very well take you up on that offer.”
She frowned. “I can go with you to that if I skip working out.”
Her eyes lit.
“I don’t know…”
“How about we go work out in the evening?” she suggested. “I’ll just ask Desi to go later with me.”
“Or I can go with you by myself,” I offered.
Her cheeks heated.
“Sounds like a plan.”
Chapter 14
I have the patience of a saint. Saint zero fucking patience.
-Codie’s secret thoughts
Codie
I was nervous as all get out.
As I arrived at the first desk that I could see in the middle of the big room, my eyes went to the young woman sitting behind it, and I smiled.
“Hello,” I said softly.
She looked up with a warm expression on her face.
“Hello,” she said. “Can I help you?”
I nodded my head as I said, “I’m here to see Luke Roberts.”
“I’ll take her, KK,” I heard from behind me.
I turned to see Nico striding in with two men at his side, both of which I’d seen quite a few times around town since I’d been home.
They were both on the SWAT team, obviously, seeing as they were each wearing the same “KPD SWAT’ shirt that Nico had on.
They were also looking at me with huge smiles on their faces.
“It’s the Devil whisperer.”
I blinked in surprise at the obviously affectionate words aimed toward me coming from the man to my left.
He had a gun on his hip, a shiny gold badge clipped to the belt, and his shoulders were so wide I could park a car on them.
“Uhhh,” I hesitated. “I don’t know what you mean.”
“Are you talking about Nico’s kids being the Devil, or are you talking about Ace being the devil?” the smaller of the two unknown men asked. “Because Nico said today that Ace has been the happiest that he’s ever seen him.”
I stared at the two men in fascination, then glanced at Nico who was busy checking his phone.
“Are you going to take her, or would you like me to?” KK asked sweetly. “Y’all still haven’t moved from standing in front of my desk.”
“Saucy, I like it,” the man in the middle said. “This way, madam.”
