Okay, Hunter didn’t need to hear this kind of shit.

“Harlow has no enemies because other than me and this club, and sometimes our parents, who she doesn’t always get along with, she has no one.”

There was silence and Hunter didn’t think it was possible for him to feel any fucking worse than he already felt, but he was clearly wrong. He did feel worse.

“Then we’re back to the Twisted Bastards MC,” Smokey said. “They’re making their presence known.”

“No, they’re playing ghosts,” Raven said. “Which means they’re getting around town.”

Smokey agreed.

Hunter didn’t like this.

“I need you to go and talk to everyone. We need to know if they’ve seen strangers lurking. Men watching the bakery. Even women.”

They all stopped as suddenly Elijah stormed into the room. “There’s been an attack on The Shack.

Hunter was already heading out the door. The Shack was the place they owned where they filmed their porn. Several men and women worked for them, and they made a pretty good living from fucking.

Raven hated having to monitor The Shack. Hunter used to like it, but being behind the scenes and watching women lube up to make sex easier had lost its appeal fast. Heading out to his bike, he straddled the engine and turned over the ignition as Smokey made his way out of the clubhouse. Big Dick was there as was Ugly Beast.

The Twisted Bastards had always been cowardly fucks. Hunter hadn’t liked Creed, and after they had taken him out along with several of the Twisted fuckers, they had hoped it was over. They should have burned them to the ground. Hunted for them completely, but instead they had fucked up and now were paying the price. He couldn’t think about the damage they might do to Harlow or more of their businesses.

Harlow was getting out of the hospital today. Big Dick had wanted to be the one to get her, but Larissa and Jonah had agreed to go. He knew Ava was upset by that, but maybe it was all for the best.

Arriving at The Shack, he climbed off his bike and found several men and women bleeding. There was an ambulance crew, and to top it off, the sheriff was also there.

Shit was hitting the fan and the Twisted Bastards MC had planned this. Hunter didn’t like being on the receiving end, playing catch-up. While they were in this position, they were vulnerable, and he didn’t like it. They were not ones to run scared.

He hated when men attacked from behind.

Harlow arrived at the bakery and stepped inside. Even though her body ached, going back to her apartment was not an option. Larissa and Jonah had picked her up from the hospital. Her mother had been pissed, but she’d also been waiting for her at her apartment.

The landlord had let her in, and her mother had done her mothering things. Harlow couldn’t stand it. She was used to her mother not being happy with her, or critiquing something she was wearing, or just generally being an asshole. This time, her mother had cleaned her apartment, not that there was much to clean. Fully stocked her fridge. Harlow was happy with that, even though she was pretty sure she saw cuts of meat. She’d give them to Larissa or someone else.

She had also offered to help give her a bath, and help in other ways, and in truth, Harlow didn’t want it. She loved her mother, but right now she didn’t want or need her help. All she wanted was to be left alone.

There were no customers at the bakery. Ava was at the front desk.

“Harlow, what are you doing?” Ava asked.

“I’m here to work.”

“Shouldn’t you be resting?”

Harlow wrinkled her nose. “Nah, that’s not for me. I need to get some work done, and I want to help. Also, there’s something I need to tell you.”

Ava folded her arms with a frown. “What?”

“I, ugh, I really do appreciate this job and you know I love it. I love it so much and it’s been the best job in the world.”

“Thank you.”

“But I think it’s time for me to move on. I think I need to find something else to do.”

“Harlow, what is going on?”

She needed to have a clean break. To find something or somewhere the club didn’t go. In a small town, that was next to impossible. The diner was out of the question as was the florist. No way in hell was she going to turn into a porn star. What she needed was to not have a reason or fear seeing him. In town, on the street, that was acceptable. Hunter had often arrived at the bakery, unexpected.

Harlow didn’t want to become one of those women desperate for Hunter to even look at her. She wanted a clean break. Far, far, far from him. Harlow didn’t know what job she would take, but it would be one that he had no reason to visit.
