“Oh, no, no, no.” Dallas cups my chin in his palm. “Open your eyes, beautiful. Let me see what I do to you.”

I fight to pry them open and meet his gaze as wave after wave of bliss washes over me. I’m drowning in the intimacy of the moment. The emotions I catch and hold in Dallas’s eyes take my breath away.

It isn’t until I’ve crested the orgasm that Dallas allows his to take him under. He’s beautiful as he unravels, body shaking, expression fierce.

He rolls us to the side and hooks my leg over his hip, keeping us joined as he kisses me, soft and slow.

“Hi.” I run my fingers through his sweaty hair.

“Hey.” He kisses the end of my nose. “I did good, eh?”

“At least a seven out of ten.”

“Pfft. Your exuberance tells me you’re a liar.” He’s all smiles, and it makes my heart flutter.

“Fine. You did good. But don’t let it go to your head. Subsequent performances could drag your rating down, so you best stay on your A-game,” I tease.

“I might need to tone it down to my B-game in the future, unless you can temper your enthusiasm.”

“What does that mean?”

“You’re kind of loud in bed.”

I try to push him away, but he tightens his hold around my waist. “You’re a jerk!”

“I’m kidding.” His eyes are lit up. He’s gleeful.

“No, you’re not.” My eyes flare. “You don’t think your parents could hear all the way in the house?”

“Nah. Also, please always be that vocal. I fucking love it. And the nails, always try to stab me with your fingernail talons. Especially during sex. I wasn’t kidding when I said it gets me going.”

“Has everything you’ve said since we’ve gotten engaged been the truth?” I muse.

“I’ve never lied to you. Not once since we both moved to Toronto.”

I trace his eyebrow. I have a lot of feelings I don’t know what to do with. “You really want to marry me?” I whisper.

“Yeah.” He nods, and his smile grows sad. “I know we’re going about it kind of backwards, but would you officially be my girlfriend now, like for reals and not for fakies?” He swallows nervously, as though he’s waiting for me to say no.

I kiss the end of his nose. “Yeah. I’ll be your for-reals girlfriend.”

“Thank God I brought my A-game.”

He kisses me, and we start again, but this time I let him be soft and sweet. Because that’s what he needs, and after everything we’ve been through, we both deserve a little tenderness.

CHAPTER 31

DALLAS

Iwake up wrapped around Wilhelmina’s gloriously naked body. She’s warm and still asleep. I have no desire to leave the comfort of this bed, but today is a big day, full of amazing surprises, so I should really get a move on. Still, I lie there for another minute, basking in the glow that is my awesome life. The sex last night was transformative. The best sex of my life—especially round two when she let me make sweet, sweet love to her.

When my erection becomes a real problem and my need to relieve myself is too much to ignore, I carefully slip out of bed.

It takes me an irrationally long time to pee, and when I emerge, Wills is no longer in bed. Unfortunately, she’s also no longer naked. But she’s wearing one of my Terror shirts, and it skims the curve of her delightfully perfect ass. “What a gorgeous morning. Let’s make coffee and sit on the swing.” She stretches her arms over her head and yawns loudly. It doesn’t register that she’s already at the door until it’s too late.

“Honey, wait.” I hastily jam my legs through last night’s boxer shorts and nearly faceplant into the corner of the bed. As it is, I stumble across the room just in time for her to throw the door open. My mom stands at the base of the front porch, a tray of baked goods and fresh fruit in her hands, wearing a huge smile.

But it’s what lies beyond my mother that has Wills frozen to the spot.

One side of the yard is dotted with yurts, and the other side boasts picnic tables and a buffet full of breakfast foods. A huge shade tent has been set up near the water, and Muskoka chairs circle the fire pit, which still smolders. Shilpa, who’s talking animatedly with my dad, is the first to notice us. Her eyebrows rise as she takes us in.

Mom’s face lights up, despite our lack of clothing. “Oh good! You’re awake!”

Shilpa climbs the steps and envelops Wills in a tight hug. “Surprise!” She releases her, but doesn’t move aside, likely to shield Wills from everyone else’s eyes.

“What the heck is going on? Why is everyone here?”

“It’s your engagement party.” She hands Wills a bag. “There’s a shirt in there for you. Go put some clothes on and come join us. Then you can fill me in on last night.” She winks and pushes Wills towards me.
