“What time do you want to head out in the morning?” Legend asks.
We’re sitting on the couch. We just got back after watching a dinner show. “What time do we have to be out of here?”
“Eleven, I think.”
I nod. “I’m easy. Do you have clients tomorrow?”
“No. I’m off all week.”
That surprises me. “You are?”
“Yeah, when you told me you were taking the entire week off, I did too.”
See, this man, he melts my heart. “You didn’t have to do that.”
“I know, but I thought we could go shopping. Get a few things to make the house feel more like home for you.”
“Legend, that’s not necessary.”
“Maybe paint the bedroom or any other room. It’s small, but I want it to feel like yours while you live there.”
“I love your house. I wouldn’t change a thing. Well, I might buy a throw blanket or two. We keep having to take the blankets from the bedroom.” I chuckle, thinking about Legend tugging the blankets out to the living room because he knows I like to be snuggled up.
“We can do that. Who knows? You might see something else while we’re out and about.”
“That’s really not necessary, Legend.”
“I need you to feel like you’re home.”
“I do. You’ve made me feel welcome. Promise.” I smile at him.
He nods. “What do you want to do on our last night?” he asks, changing the subject.
“Hot tub,” I say immediately. “We’ve yet to try it out.” Yesterday, we were gone all day. We shopped a little, drove through the mountains, took in a dinner show, and came home and crashed. Well, after he kissed the breath from my lungs.
He nods. “We still have that bottle of wine that the cabin gave us as a wedding gift.”
“Yes, please.” I stand from the couch. “I’ll go change.”
“I’ll grab the wine and set it by the hot tub, then I’ll be up to change too.”
“Thank you.” I stand on tiptoes and press a kiss on his cheek. The smile he gives me is soft, and if I didn’t know better, I’d say it was loving. Rushing up to our room, I quickly change into my bikini and grab a couple of towels before heading to the upper level, where the hot tub sits on the balcony.
When I open the bedroom door, I bump into Legend. His hands land on my hips as he steadies me.
“Yikes. Sorry about that.” I smile up at him.
“You good?”
“I’m good. Just ready to enjoy our last night here.”
He nods. “I’ll be there in a minute. I poured us both a glass of wine.”
“Best husband ever.” I wink at him, and he chuckles.
I move to step around him and squeal when his hand connects with my ass. I stop and turn to look at him over my shoulder. He shrugs and disappears into our room. With my ass, which is stinging from his hand, and my pussy craving more of him, I make my way to the upper level, toss the towels onto a chair, and sink into the water, grabbing my glass of wine from the cupholder on the side.
This is the life.
I hear Legend as he joins me, but I keep my head tilted back and my eyes closed. “We should get a hot tub,” I tell him.
He chuckles. “You think so?”
“Definitely. But I get visitation rights when you divorce me.” My stomach twists at the thought of no more nights sleeping next to him. I keep reminding myself that’s our future, no matter how knotted with anxiety it makes me.
He’s quiet and doesn’t respond to my joke. I peel open one eye and lift my head just enough to see him. He’s staring at me with an intensity that has my body heating.
“Let’s not talk about divorce on our honeymoon.”
“Fine, fine,” I tease. “Thanks for the wine.” I take a long sip from my glass.
He reaches for his own and drains it before picking up the bottle, refilling his glass, and moving toward me to top mine off as well.
Instead of going back to his side of the hot tub, he settles on my side. I’m stretched out, so he pulls my feet onto his lap and begins to massage.
“A girl could get used to this,” I tell him.
“Good.”
I don’t have to look at him to know that he’s smiling. We talk about anything and everything. Being with Legend is easy. He’s laid-back and fun to be around. He’s been more serious lately, but I can only imagine the stress of marrying me to get his inheritance. It’s not fair—the steps he’s had to go through to make it happen—but I’m glad I could help him.
I don’t know how much time has passed, but the enormous bottle of wine is now empty, and my fingers are pruned. “I’m starting to look like an old woman.” I hold my hands up to show Legend as I giggle. Definitely too much wine.
