That’s my girl. I laugh and shake my head. My baby isn’t the pushover she comes off to be.

I’m starting to see more fire in her than I thought she possessed. I like it. The brewing heat is sexy.

“You don’t have to be rude. I just want to treat you to lunch.” Angel pouts.

“With what? My money?” Taylor hisses.

“Fine, forget I asked. You think you’re hot shit now that you’re fucking some biker. I give him a week before he dumps you to find someone with real tits. Did you remember to pack all your chicken cutlets? If you fuck him with your bra on, you might get another week or two out of him.”

“What makes you think I won’t slap the fire out of you?” Taylor seethes in that voice that raises my hackles.

“Baby girl, she’s goading you. Take a breath and step back,” I say in Taylor’s thoughts before she releases the power she’s channeling.

“Thank you,” she whispers back.

I watch in her thoughts as she turns and walks away. The power she had been pulling begins to recede. I’m proud of her, she has just demonstrated a shit ton of control and restraint.

“Don’t turn your back on me, bitch.”

Suddenly, I’m standing in the hall between Taylor and Angel. I have the wrist Angel was about to use to grab or strike my mate. She looks up at me with fear in her eyes.

I make sure to release enough of my power for it to hum through the air. My eyes glow with flames in case she doesn’t feel that I mean business.

However, Angel is forgotten as a familiar scent permeates the air. I know right away it’s some of those hunters. I release Angel and grab hold of Taylor.

Right as I grab her and turn my back, a bolt of energy blasts me in the shoulder. Taylor yelps within my hold. I grunt against the sharp pain but shake it off quickly.

Not wanting to leave Taylor vulnerable, I flash from the hall to my bike. Once we’re both straddling my hog, I take off for the clubhouse. This is her last day at work.

Taylor

Oh my God, maybe Bradan was right. What the fuck just happened? Why were those guys throwing bolts of magic at us?

I look up at Bradan’s shoulder. It’s already beginning to heal. Where there had been a gaping wound where he was hit is now a red mark on his skin, revealed by his ruined shirt and singed cut. With a shaky hand, I reached to touch the area.

“It will be fine, little one. I just need to get you to safety.”

“But what just happened?” I think to him.

“Those were the hunters. I believe they were after you.”

My mind goes back to Lee’s words at the bar. I hadn’t thought anything of them that evening. However, now knowing that Ray had been attacked that night, I’m starting to question everything.

It’s not safe out there.

Does Lee know that I’m in danger? Could Lee and Charlie be one and the same? I’m finding that I have more questions with each day instead of answers.

“Taylor, what were you just thinking about?” Bradan asks cautiously.

“The night I met Lee. Why?”

“Your thoughts just became a complete blur,” he replies.

“Really? That’s strange.” I shift my thoughts to what happened with Angel at my workplace. I mean, who does she think she is? “How about now? Are they still a blur?”

“No,” he growls.

Um, I wonder what that’s about. I’m not blocking him from my thoughts. We fall silent as he continues to the clubhouse. Boy, has my life changed.

The Audacity

“Those motherfuckers had the audacity to come for my mate,” I snarl as I walk into Kendrick’s office.

“What? Who?” Reilly asks as he and Kendrick look up from some maps they’re peering over.

“Those fucking hunters. They showed up at Taylor’s workplace.”

“Where is Taylor now?” Kendrick asks as he stands from the war table he keeps in the room for others to be able to stand around as his desk won’t allow anyone to get near it.

“She’s with a few of the she-wolves in the kitchen,” I reply.

“Why leave her with them?” Reilly asks.

“Her thoughts became a blur to me out of nowhere. I thought letting her get to know a few of them would give her a chance to learn more about mind-linking even though they can’t link with her. Besides, who do I trust more, other than you guys?” I grumble.

“Her thoughts were a blur. How?” Reilly asks with concern.

I take a calming breath. “You know what, I think she was thinking of the fourth sister. This Lee. I could hear them, but the visual thoughts were a blur.”

“I know what he means,” Kendrick says. “Some of Ray’s thoughts are still a blur to me when it comes to Venus.

“When I fell through time, I didn’t see anything she saw concerning Venus. Only the parts of the past concerning me. I was going to brush it off as an effect caused by Venus’s presence but now, I’m thinking that might not be the case.”
