It eases the ache of not being wanted by my parents, even though Emmett insists that they’re just hurting and they don’t know how to channel that pain. It doesn’t explain why Quincy doesn’t answer the phone when I call and only responds with short answers when I text. All of it would be too much to handle if it weren’t for the people here who welcomed me with open arms.

“I don’t think we have time for that,” Emmett grumbles as I roll my hips once again.

“I already packed,” I argue, thinking there are always a few minutes we can steal from the day.

I learned that a lot can be accomplished in a fifteen-minute break if we just put our minds to it.

“What are you wearing to the wedding?”

“You remember that silk dressing gown I found the other day?”

He rumbles his acknowledgment, but I can hear the displeasure in the sound.

Smiling against his chest, I continue, “I added sequins and beads to the top and made the fit a little better for my frame.”

“That thing barely went past your ass.”

“It’s a little sexy,” I confirm. “I think I’ll pair it with those red heels I was able to repair.”

I keep my mouth against him, each word brushing my lips against his chest. His arm around me tightens, his pulse kicking up a notch.

“You don’t like the dress?”

“The dress is sexy as hell, but maybe it’s a bad idea to wear it.”

“To a wedding?”

“In public,” he clarifies.

I pull my head back, my eyes narrowing. “I never took you for a man who would get growly and tell me I can’t wear something.”

His smile is slow and a little sinister. “Make no mistake, baby. I’m not saying you can’t wear it, but know if you do, there will be consequences.”

I push further away, my hands pressed to his chest so I can look down at him fully.

“Consequences?”

“Not for you, but I’ll throat punch every guy that eyeballs you. It may ruin the day.”

I chew the inside of my cheek in a failed attempt to keep from smiling.

“Are you fucking with me?” he growls, my lip twitching with the need to laugh.

“Have I told you how hot your jealousy is?”

He dips his head. “Just last week, remember?”

I take a fortifying breath, ready to repeat the same argument we had then. “Oracle isn’t competition. He says that shit to get a rise out of you and you let him every single time.”

His jaw flexes, no doubt remembering the altercation.

“He asked you to bend over again because he missed it the first time.”

“I was wearing sweats.”

“Do you have any idea how great your ass looks in sweats?”

I huff a humorless laugh. “No ones ass looks good in sweats.”

I nip at his chin playfully.

Without warning, he pulls me on top of him, and I have no choice but to straddle his naked body.

“It’s too early in the day for this, Devyn.”

I roll my hips, loving the way his eyes drop to the space between my legs. The man is just as obsessed with me as I am with him.

“I still haven’t decided whether or not I’m going to punch Oracle in the face.”

“I’m yours,” I remind him on a low moan when he presses his thumb to my clit.

“Prove it,” he grumbles.

I press my legs deeper into the mattress and lift myself up enough to notch his dick against my entrance.

“You’re playing with fire, Devyn.”

I know he’d have no issue with me taking him inside of me bare. He’s not the type of guy who would shirk his responsibilities if we were to create a life. But in our maturity and while we were fully clothed, making it easier to discuss, we decided babies now would be too soon although we had agreed it was something we both wanted.

I lift off, letting his dick slap against his stomach. I know it’s something I’ll have to work through but there’s still that voice in my head that tells me I need to do everything to make sure he stays. If I had his baby, he’d never leave. He’s the type of man who will always take care of his responsibilities. It’s crazy, bordering on psychotic, to want to trap him, and that’s what it would boil down to. I don’t want to be that person, but past trauma tries to convince me that something other than me is necessary to keep him, as if I can’t accept that I’m enough for him.

“Just another week or so,” he says, reminding me of the birth control I recently started. “Believe me, I can’t wait to see my cum dripping from you.”

I nod, knowing he’s right. I have so many goals to reach in life before having kids.

“But in the meantime,” he says, sliding down the bed while simultaneously pulling me further up his body.
