Even though I’ve tried to fight the attraction tooth and nail, I’m guilty of the same.

“Has it?”

“Yes. I’ve been spending a lot of time in the studio.”

He searches my eyes for a long silent moment before his tone lightens. “Good to know.”

My muscles loosen with relief that he dropped the topic so easily.

I avert my gaze, unwilling to get sucked into his vortex. “You should probably get moving or you’ll get your ass chewed out.”

“I don’t give a shit about that. It was more important to clear the air with you.” His gaze drops to my lips. “And I wanted a kiss for good luck.”

Before those words can fully register, his mouth crashes onto mine. His tongue licks at the seam of my lips, weakening my freshly fortified defenses, until I have no other choice but to capitulate and open. That’s all it takes for him to delve in and make me forget that we’re standing in the middle of the hallway where anyone could see us. His hands remain shackled around my upper arms. The thickness of his erection digs insistently into my lower abdomen, and I can’t help but squirm against it as memories of Saturday morning flood my brain.

I’ve never come so hard in my life.

With barely any foreplay at all.

A half dozen strokes was all it took to send me careening over the edge and into oblivion. It must have been the culmination of years of pent-up sexual tension simmering between us. What other explanation is there?

The way his hungry mouth roves over mine is enough to make me forget my own name. If he weren’t pinning me to the wall, my knees would buckle, and I’d melt into a puddle of goo.

Just when I grow lightheaded from lack of oxygen, he pulls away enough to ask, “You’re coming to the game, right?”

“Sorry. Wasn’t planning on it.”

Lie.

Juliette secured my promise the other day. And I was secretly happy to let her believe she twisted my arm in the matter.

He nips at my lower lip, tugging it with sharp teeth before sucking it into his mouth. My eyes nearly cross as another punch of arousal hits me square in the gut.

Or maybe it hits a little lower.

With his gaze locked on mine, he releases the plump flesh with a soft pop.

“I want you there, sitting in the stands, cheering me on.”

“Maybe I have other plans that don’t involve hockey.” Another lie. “Ever think of that?”

A growl vibrates in his chest. “That better not be the case.”

He kisses me again before his mouth trails possessively down the column of my neck.

“I’ll…think about showing up.”

“No thinking necessary. Just be there.”

When he retreats a step, I press myself against the wall and lock my knees.

“Or what?” It’s a surprise when my voice comes out sounding so steady.

“Or you’ll find that pretty little ass spanked.” With a smirk, he swallows up the distance again. His gaze slides down my length before flicking back to my eyes. “Although, I have the feeling you’d probably enjoy it.”

With one final kiss, he turns away, hustling down the hall to the stairwell that leads to the lobby. It’s only when the metal door slams shut behind him that I release the pent-up breath from my lungs.

Holy cr—

“Was that as hot as it looked?”

My head jerks to the side so fast that I nearly give myself whiplash. A girl I recognize from the floor leans against her door with her arms crossed against her chest.

“Hotter,” I reluctantly admit because it’s the truth.

She fans herself with her hand. “Yeah, that’s exactly what I thought.”

It takes effort to push myself away from the wall and walk to the apartment. My panties are such a damp mess that I could probably wring them out.

It’s so tempting to grab my vibe and use it to relieve the sexual tension Ford stirred to life with a kiss and some dirty words but…

I promised that I wouldn’t.

Damn him.

I’d feel a lot more relaxed if I could get off on my own. Especially if I’m going to be spending more time with him. At this rate, I’ll sneak into the locker room just so I can fuck his brains out. And I won’t give a damn who’s watching.

That thought is almost enough to stop me in my tracks.

This is bad.

Really, really bad.

I need to figure out a way to regain the upper hand in this situationship.

Part of me wonders if that’s even possible.

Two hours later, Juliette and I are settled in our seats at the arena. Her parents are there along with other hockey families. I don’t think Mr. and Mrs. McKinnon have missed a single one of Maverick’s games.

Even the away ones.

As I reach for the box of popcorn my phone dings with an incoming text. I slip the silver device from my jacket pocket and glance at it.
