Captain Boyd isn’t alone in his office. James Hayes is sitting casually at the conference table.
“Gentlemen,” he greets coolly.
The man is a legend in security and special force operations. His connections and respect reach deep and wide. Robbie and Finn are being groomed to take over one of the divisions of the company. Both times we’ve worked with Hayes Security, Robbie has been in charge.
This makes James’ presence a surprise.
“I’ve come with a special request,” James cuts to business.
“Not sure it’s a special request as much as a headache,” Boyd retorts gruffly.
James’ lips twitch but otherwise, his face remains stoic. “Hayes Security would like to contract your services.” His sharp eyes move between us. “Last week brought a lot of attention our way. We’ve been asked by the Governor’s office and ATF to continue our involvement in monitoring illegal activity traveling through the state.”
The four of our eyes meet, sharing our thoughts. Ace speaks for us. “We already have a job.”
A small flicker of annoyance crosses James’ features, his attention going to Boyd. “Yes, we are all well aware of your importance on the force, but you have been hand-selected for roles on my team. If interested, I can personally assure you that your tenure on the force will not be disrupted for future advancement opportunities.”
The room takes on an icy chill, and I don’t move a muscle as the hostile significance floats in the air.
Boyd caves first. “Metro PD is willing to liaison with Hayes Security.”
“Label it how you wish. I’ll have the contracts sent over immediately.”
“What about my situation?” Major inquires.
“What situation is that?”
“I’m getting married in less than a month.”
James smiles wide. “I’m well aware since Jenna and I are attending and my daughter-in-law designed your fiancée’s dress. If you’re worried our arrangement will disrupt any of your lives, rest assured that is not the case.”
“Send the contracts.” Major jerks his chin in approval.
“You’ll find there is an additional compensation package,” James adds.
“Shit, man, we worked for the government for a pittance the first three years. You think we’re in this for money?”
“No, but I think this government owes you.”
“Like I said, you’re acquiring headaches. Cocky, arrogant, fearless headaches.”
“Is there any other kind?” James stands and extends his hand to Boyd. “Looking forward to working together.”
“Yeah, yeah…” he mumbles, shaking his hand. “Promise to return them to me without bullet holes or stab wounds and we’ll be solid.”
“Knew you loved us, Boyd,” Talon prods, making a heart with his hands.
At this, I openly chuckle, earning a dirty glower from Boyd. “Don’t you have a girlfriend to move?”
At this comment, my mood goes south. “Temporarily move.”
“Been there and done that, too. However, I think this time it will be much more entertaining.” James chuckles knowingly.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Who am I to spoil all the fun? Talk soon.” He gives a wave and walks out.
I make the move to follow when Boyd clears his throat. “Not yet, rookie.”
“You got something else?”
He glances between us, his gaze no longer irritated, but troubled. “Not my call to hold you boys back.”
“Technically, you’re only holding Ace and me back. These two are being stubborn assholes,” Major states.
“It’s a delay of the inevitable,” I counter.
The trouble in Boyd’s eyes clears, his lip curling. “You really are cocky pricks. That being said, you have my recommendation when the time comes.”
“Aww.” Talon wipes a nonexistent tear.
“Get out of here,” Boyd dismisses.
We pile out of his office, all heads swinging our way with looks of confusion. James is still in the squad room talking to Rich Jacobs.
“Catch up with you soon.” Ace heads their way.
When we get to my truck, Major and Talon are smirking.
“Something funny?”
“Fucking hilarious.” Major grins wide.
“Want to share.”
“You fucking kidding me? We’re following you to your girlfriend’s house to help her move in with two other guys.”
“Temporarily move,” I correct. “Cruz and Alex aren’t a threat.”
“I hoped I was wrong. Chalked up the kiss disaster as a one-time incident. No longer can deny, you have absolutely no game.” Talon shakes his head in disappointment.
“You’re a dick. If I had my way, her ass would be unpacking boxes in my house as we speak.”
“And yet, she’s shacking up with them.”
“Not for long.” I yank open my door and rethink my compromise.
Rowan’s one-month timeline just got shorter.
My eyes fly open and my arm shoots to the other side of the bed, finding it empty. A hand circles my dick at the same time there’s a tug at my piercing. I click on the light and am instantly hard. Rowan flicks the metal over and over with her tongue, her eyes locking with mine.
She spreads my knees, situates herself between them, and sinks down.
“Shit,” I hiss, bucking into her face.
She bobs up and down, taking me a little further each time until my cock hits the back of her throat. I lose her eyes when she drops her chin, sucking me hard.
