Walking down the hallway, I come to the open kitchen and living room where I see Haidyn standing by a kitchen chair in the center of the room. Rope sits on the black leather and so does a syringe. I step back and spin to return to his room.

“It’s going to happen, Annabelle.”

The name makes my teeth clench. What makes him decide to call me by it? When he’s mad at me? Did I do something to piss him off? I thought we shared a moment this morning? Maybe it was wishful thinking talking about love. I mean, I know he’s never going to feel that for another woman, but I still felt he had opened up to me just by asking me if I wanted kids. It was a very personal question, and for the first time, it was as if he wanted to know about me. The real me. Not the one I pretend to be because I have to.

“Either you willingly sit down in the chair, or I chase you down, drag you back by your hair, and tie you to it. What’s it going to be?”

I shouldn’t get excited at the way he explains the things he’s going to do to me. But I can’t help it. You can only fight for so long, but eventually, it’s pointless. Closing my eyes, I silently curse. Goddamn him for doing this to me. Turning back to face him, I lift my chin and walk toward him. When I come to a stop in front of the chair, he lowers his eyes to the T-shirt of his that I wear.

“Strip,” he commands, and I feel those butterflies in my stomach that always come when he tells me what to do.

I pull the material up and over my head, tossing it to the side.

“Have a seat, doll face.” He taps the leather and picks up the syringe before I do as he says.

FIFTY

HAIDYN

After I finished fucking her, she passed out, and I thought about what she said to me in bed. She knows more than she’s letting on, and this is the only way to get what I want out of her.

I take the rope and kneel behind the chair. “Hands behind your back,” I command, and she crosses her wrists behind the chair. Once I’m done securing her wrists together, I take the excess rope and bring it underneath the chair where I tie it around both of her ankles. I don’t need her in a tight spot because I know she won’t fight me on this. I just need her in one place. It’s more for her safety than anything else.

I rise and move to stand in front of her and remove the cap off the syringe. She tilts her head to the side for me and sucks in a deep breath. “Good girl,” I praise her, and she whimpers. After I push the needle into her neck, I place the cap back on and set it on the kitchen island before returning to her.

I gently cup her chin, forcing her to look up at me, and her eyes go heavy almost instantly. “What do you know about Dollhouse?” I get to the point. I didn’t give her as much as last time. I’ve only got a few questions, so this will wear off a lot quicker.

“Never heard of it.”

Bill did say she had no clue what she was meant to do if she fulfills her assignment. “You lied to me in bed this morning about your Lord. Why?” I know he’s not dead. That would be too easy. She’s meant for someone, especially if she’s who Bill says she is.

Charlotte blinks, licking her lips. “Because you have him.”

I frown. “What does that mean?”

“He’s at Carnage.”

Interesting. We have a lot of Lords go in and out of Carnage. The turnaround rate is actually pretty high. Most don’t last long. “Who told you that?”

“Bill.”

“How the hell would he know that?” Funny that Bill didn’t mention that to me during our meetup. I knew he was keeping shit from me.

“He plays golf with his father…”

“Who is your Lord?”

“Winston Garvey.”

Hmm. Never heard of that name, so Bill is lying to her or the Lord is going by another name. I’m starting to think anything is possible. “When are you supposed to marry him?”

“A year ago.” Her lashes flutter, and I run a hand through my hair. She did tell me she would have already had at least one kid by now.

I want to ask her about breeders, but I don’t. She doesn’t know anything about it. As a Lord, you’re never told what your punishment is for failing an assignment. The Lords want you to be surprised. “What do you know about the founders?” I decide to ask.

Her brows pull together in confusion. “No one knows who they are.”
