“Worth a look.” Jackson steps over to Serenity, but she moves away.
Yikes.
Everyone is struggling with this new revelation.
“We’ll go check it out,” I say, then look at Muff.
He nods.
Ciara gives us the address, and we get the hell out of there.
The tension in that club is enough to bring anyone to their knees.
“What were you girls doin’ sneakin’ around the club last night?” Muff asks when we’re in the truck.
I glance back at Max in his seat, and see his eyes are getting heavy. He’ll go off to sleep soon.
“We didn’t think you guys were hiding something so...bad. We thought it would be funny to find out what it was. We had no idea what we would overhear.”
“You know,” he grinds out, tense, “better than anyone, that you do not fuckin’ involve yourself in club business.”
I bite my lip.
“We were drunk. It’s no excuse, I know.”
“Made a big fuckin’ mess of things around here,” he mutters, fingers tight around the steering wheel.
“I’m sorry.”
Exhaling, he reaches over, squeezing my knee. “Know you are, Jaybird.”
We really did fuck up.
That much is clear.
Now, we need to make sure Addison is okay. She’s processing a lot right now. She just found out Cade knew about something pretty bad and did nothing to stop it, and not to mention the fact that he had a sister she didn’t know about. I know how it feels to be blindsided like that. In this case, the situation could be very dangerous, and it is a dark road to wander down.
I know they’re both strong enough to get past it, the problem now is...where to from here?
Cade has a sister, and Addison just isn’t going to let that go.
She’s determined, strong-willed and feisty.
She won’t go down without a fight.
She is going to find that sister, or at the very least, answers.
I’m not sure if that’s a good or a bad thing.
I guess we’re about to find out.
20 – Muff
“GOIN’ TO KEEP SULKIN’ or are you goin’ to let me in.”
Addison stands on the other side of the door at the cabin, staring through the screen at me. Her dark hair is a mess, and her green eyes are tired, she looks like she’s been crying but now her face is washed with determination. That should scare Cade because everyone in this club knows Addi on a mission is a force to be reckoned with.
“What are you doing here, Muff?”
I glance back at the truck, where Janine is waiting with Max, who is still asleep. She didn’t want to get him out, or leave him in there alone out here, so I told her I’d come in. I like Addi, we all do, and she’s easy to get along with. She feels betrayed right now, and I, for one, am an fucking expert at being able to explain why someone would keep a secret like that.
“Both know why I’m here. Now open up.” I say, crossing my arms.
“Skye’s asleep.”
“Fuckin’ fantastic, gives us more time to talk. Now open.”
With a frustrated growl, she unlocks the screen and shoves it open. Standing in front of me, her lips pushed into a frustrated pout, I can’t help but chuckle. She’s a firecracker, but she’s got a heart of fuckin’ pure gold.
“Wipe the pout, princess. I want to talk to you,” I say, walking into the cabin and looking around before sitting on the sofa and leaning back, grinning at her.
“Of course they’d send you, you’re the hardest one to turn away.” She mutters, sitting down across from me.
“It’s my charm and wit.” I smirk. “Now, tell me why you’re here hiding when you should be back there talkin’ to your man.”
A loud grunt. “My man? My man didn’t tell me he had a sister, or better yet, that he doesn’t fucking know where she is.”
“Yeah, and that fuckin’ sucks, but you of all people should understand havin’ a past that’s ugly and not wanting it to damage your future. You don’t know what went down between the two of them, so you don't understand why he chose not to go lookin’ for her.”
She crosses her arms. “He didn’t even tell me about her.”
“Because you would have asked questions, and he clearly don’t want to answer those questions. I can see why he just left it out.”
“You fucking bikers, always having each other's backs. He fucked up, Brian.”
I grin at her use of my real name because she’s trying to frustrate me. “Thank you, Addison. I’m very aware he fucked up, but he didn’t do it to hurt you.”
“Maybe not, but he was involved in something pretty fucking horrible, and he never went back to stop it.”
“You haven’t been caught up in bad shit that you don’t want to go back to?”
She flinches, and scowls. “Fuck you, you’re not allowed to use my past. It’s different.”
