They asked for selfies.

Then autographs.

When the elevator arrived, they rode with us and wanted to talk football with Brett.

I tuned out, remembering the look on Brett’s face when he came into the family section. Everyone had stopped talking because the image of Brett Broudou walking beside Mason Kade stunned people, but in the midst of all that, Brett couldn’t give two fucks because he only had eyes for me.

He went right to me and hauled me in for the tightest hug, lifting me off my feet.

It took me a second to react and then I had my arms wrapped around him. He soothed something in me that I’d been ignoring, or trying to ignore. The booze helped today, it helped a lot, but there were still some nerves.

I loved him.

I told him.

It was in a text, and it was said without thinking about it, but it was still there. He gave me no response so was this my response?

I tilted my head back, trying to see him better, and when his eyes met mine, my whole body came awake. His eyes were dark, stormy, and heated. A shiver went down my spine, knowing what he wanted to be doing at that moment. Feeling it, his eyes flashed. His hand moved to my spine, as if he could soothe that shiver away, but it was one of those delicious ones.

Things happened after he set me back down on my feet, but it was all a blur. I was in a Brett daze. It was so strong that Lo and Roger were shooting me looks because I wasn’t geeking out when Brett introduced me to Mason Kade, and then to his wife. Normal Billie wouldn’t be able to talk. I’d be staring, geeking out inside myself, with the whole fangirl look on my face. Instead, I was cool, calm, and collected.

I was normal by most people’s standards. Totally not Normal Billie.

Which Lo and Roger picked up on, but comprehension clicked when Brett and I couldn’t move a foot without touching each other.

He kept an arm around my waist, or a hand looped in the back of my pants, or slid his hand down my arm to take my hand in his. If he wasn’t touching me, then I was reaching for him. Always in contact.

At the end, my back was plastered to his front, and his arms were in front of me. One of my hands hung onto his arm with our other hands playing with each other.

Cue another one of those shivers.

I’d been having them the whole time we were in that family section. It was almost all I could concentrate on, barely hearing Lo and Roger excusing themselves when we got to the hotel lobby. They were heading for the bar.

Travis said his goodbyes even before we got to the family room, saying he needed to get to the airport. He was needed back in Texas so as Brett and I moved to the elevator, it’d been him and me.

We were alone, until those two guests joined.

The doors opened now on their floor, and when Brett didn’t move, neither did they. He hit the hold button on the door and stood in front of me. I reached forward, my fingers slipping underneath his shirt, feeling his skin. His heat.

His voice dipped low, the beginning of a warning from him, “Gentlemen, I believe this is your floor, not mine.”

They would’ve ridden all the way to our floor and accompanied us to our room, but Brett wasn’t going to let that happen. The words were fine, but the tone was an assertive command. Get off on your floor.

Both snapped to attention, reacting to him instinctively before they could catch themselves. They hurried off the elevator, but as the door was sliding shut, one yelled, “Do us a favor? Switch to the Orcas when you’re out of contract.”

The other guy thought that was hilarious.

But then the doors were shut, and Brett slowly turned to me.

Oh, boy.

He dropped all pretenses of normalcy, and he was letting everything out now.

If there was a beast in him, it was out. It wanted to play. It wanted to do dark, dark things to me.

Big, burning, intense eyes. Ones that were back to smoldering and making my body feel all the sinful promises he had for me.

“Brett,” I squeaked, my body already vibrating with excitement.

I took a step back as the elevator began moving again.

He moved in, looming over me. His heat enveloped me.

His presence filled up the entire elevator. The tension from him kept rippling out, multiplying, building on top of itself until I could see translucent tendrils curling in the air, making the tension spike. The feel of that elevator shrank until I was almost gasping, desperate for air.

He moved close, a hand to my stomach, and backed me against the wall.
