She wanted to reach out and touch him, but she forced herself not to.

Nate put his hands on either side of her head. “This is not going to be fun.”

“You know, this is not the way to woo a girl,” she said.

“I don’t want you to be in pain. I don’t want to be the reason to cause you any pain.”

“I know,” Carly said. All their lives, Nate had done everything to make her life easier. Whenever she felt sad, he was always there to lift her spirits. He tried to be the hard man, the cruel man, but she knew, deep down, that wasn’t who he was.

There was more to Nate than met the eye. She knew that, as did he.

Carly reached up and touched his cheek. “I trust you.”

He groaned. “I wish you hadn’t said that.”

There was no one else Carly wanted. Just Nate. Was this why all her dates were so awful? There had only been one person she wanted, and no one else compared to him.

Carly didn’t know if she’d sabotaged her own dates, but she put those fears away as he reached between them, and she felt the hard ridge of his cock.

He was so nervous, and she didn’t need for him to tell her that, to see it. He ran the tip of his cock up and down her slit, and then he was at her entrance.

Carly stared into the brightest blue eyes she’d ever seen. Nate had always had pretty eyes, even when he was angry, and she’d seen him that way a time or two.

Their friends had called her many times to help calm him down. She was the only person capable of doing so, and helping him feel levelheaded enough to make decisions.

Nate tensed, and Carly was a virgin no more.

Chapter Five

Nate ran a hand down her back, and Carly let out a sigh. “How are you feeling now?”

He’d been right. There was no way to make it good for a virgin, and he’d hated himself for it.

“I’m fine.”

After taking Carly’s virginity, it had been one of the hardest things he’d ever had to do, and considering the shit he had to do on a daily basis, that was saying something. Carly had stared up at him with tears in her eyes, and it had torn him apart to witness. He didn’t want to hurt her. It had been the last thing he wanted to do, but he’d fucking done it, and that pissed him off.

He’d done what he had vowed to never do. After he’d … completed, Nate had done what he’d read in those books she loved so much. Yes, he’d been a sucker to see what drew her attention. Not that he should have cared, but he had. In secret, he’d gotten copies of her favorite books and read them. All of them had been erotic romance with some intense storylines as well. Most, if not all, of the heroes had taken care of the woman after her first time.

Nate didn’t want to shy in comparison to some of her book boyfriends. That was what Carly called them to Sarah, not his words.

So, he’d run her a bath. Unlike the selfish bastards in the books, he’d not joined her. Instead, he’d stayed with her, washed her body, her hair, took care of her. He’d given the bath salts time to work their magic, and he’d gone back to his bedroom and changed the sheets. There had been a few droplets of blood on the bed from taking her virginity. A part of him had hated seeing that blood. It was proof of the fact he’d hurt her, when he’d promised he never would. It was a promise broken. At the same time, a part of him felt this rather primal need to slap his chest, to stake his claim, his ownership of Carly.

No other man had touched her.

No other man was going to touch her.

She belonged to him, no one else, and he didn’t want to share her with anyone.

Once all the bedding had been taken care of, and he’d changed the bed himself, he went back to Carly. This time, he helped her get dry, and then carried her back to bed.

She’d already slept for a couple of hours, and Nate had watched her.

Sarah had texted and he not so politely told her to fuck off.

Now, it was just him and Carly.

Dalton, Mitch, and Reese had also texted him, and he’d told them to leave him alone. He didn’t know what game they were playing, and he wasn’t going to join them.

“Fine?” he asked.

Carly smiled and turned toward him. She folded the pillow she’d been lying on in half, and stared at him. “Yes, I am fine. How are you?” She reached out and put a hand on his cheek. “I feel I should ask you how you’re feeling.”
