“Considering Cammy would probably cut out my jugular, not to mention my mom, dad, brother, and sister-in-law, too…” My hand goes to my hair, tugging on the long strands, reminding me once again to get a trim soon. “Look at me, Bailey, please?” My voice is gruff. The please still didn’t calm down the roughness of the demand. It’s no surprise she’s still looking down at her lap. A part of me doesn’t blame her, while the other part of me wants to get us both on the same page.

“Mr. Hughes,” Bailey says my name with a rasp in her tone, much like the one when she was spread out beneath me, almost hoarse from writhing in pleasure.

“You can call me Forest, Bailey. We’re on a first-name basis around here.”

It’s a damn fine time for my cock to wake up at the exact moment she lifts her head, eyes landing on mine. She’s a knockout of epic proportions, and I’m pissed that she’s damn untouchable now.

“Alright, Forest.” And fuck my life, her saying my name is adding to the fact that my cock wants her bare beneath me, body naked as her cunt clutches my cock over and over again.

“Ground rules. I think it goes without saying what we had in Reno can’t exist in Vegas. My girls—” I move from where I was sitting on the opposite end of the couch, getting up and pacing to the fireplace. A television is mounted above, a few pictures of Cammy and Piper are framed. Their cute semi-toothless smiles hit me like they usually do, right in the chest.

“You don’t have to explain. I’ll be their nanny and nothing else. If it’s weird for me to stay in the house on the nights you’re gone, I’m sure Catherine won’t mind taking up residence.” Bailey gives me an out, seeing as I can’t string two damn sentences together. I take a deep breath, calming down my nerves that seem to have a mind of their own right now.

“Yeah, that’s all that we can be. You’re my employee. My girls clearly are attached to you, and after the year they’ve had, I don’t want to rip that away from them. As for you staying in the guest room when I’m away at work, that’s fine. I won’t be here as it is, so that shouldn’t be a problem.” Thankfully, Krissy was adamant about having a home with a separate pool house. I’d be fucked if Bailey took up a permanent residence under the same roof as me.

“I completely understand. It might not mean much to you, but that night… I wasn’t thinking we’d ever see one another again. It was my time to, well, detach.” Bailey stands up from her seat on the couch and walks towards the back door. She’ll have to go around the pool to get to the pool house. We were grandfathered in with not needing a security gate around it as long as we had an alarm that peeped when the sliding glass door opened and there was a gate surrounding the property.

“Bailey.” She stops in her tracks. My gaze settles back on her. She’s going to pad across what I’m sure is a soaked pool deck if the girls were swimming today, so her sock-covered feet will surely be wet in no time. “Thanks for understanding where I’m coming from.” She doesn’t respond, instead nods, taking her leave, and I’m left staring after a woman who I’ve made untouchable when all I really want to do is toss her over my shoulder, carry her to my bed, strip her naked, and make her moan for me again. This time, I’d take my time, wanting her taste seared to my tongue.

Bailey

“Damn it, Bailey Ann Martin, you are a damn idiot. It would have been easier to turn in your resignation,” I tell my empty living area, bringing one leg up to take off my now soaked socks. Taking them off was the last thing on my mind when I walked away from Forest. The girls kept me busy this afternoon once both of them were home from school. Piper only goes two to three days a week, whereas Cammy is now in kindergarten full-time. Much to her chagrin for having a summer birthday, she was the youngest in her class. Of course, leave it to her telling me this while Cammy was opening the can of biscuits, my ears and eyes solely devoted to her, attempting to block out her handsome father. A fat lot of good that did. There are some things a woman can’t let go of, and that most certainly is Forest Hughes.

I rip my socks off, one after the other, and throw them to the ground in a fit of annoyance, with myself, with the situation, with Forest, and his stupid handsome self. Workplace romances never work out in real life. The only time they somehow manage to unfold, finding a happily ever after, is in my books, which is what I’m going to get lost in as soon as I’m out of these clothes.
