I pause halfway down the steps, my eyes going wide as my heart kicks into action. “What did you just say?”

“Nothing,” he laughs as Levi smirks, a silent message passing between them. “Hurry up and get your ass down here so we can leave. Trust me, you don’t want to be the one running late to one of Father’s business meetings. After all, it’s not a good look to have his sons disrespecting his rules in front of his business associates.”

“Wait,” I breathe, my gaze flicking between the three brothers. “There’s going to be other people like him there? No one said anything about other people. I thought it was just going to be us and maybe his wife.”

Roman scoffs. “There’s no one quite like him, but no, the men who he usually deals with and their wives will be there. It’s usually a big pissing contest to remind everyone who’s boss. You can expect at least three men to lose their lives and then you’ll feel like shit watching their wives wailing in grief, but then it’ll all be over and we can get you back home.”

“You say that like it isn’t a big deal,” I comment, clutching the railing as I make my way down the rest of the stairs.”

“Because it’s not,” Levi explains, meeting me at the bottom and taking my elbow. “Once you’ve sat through it so many times, it becomes repetitive and boring. You’ll see. You have nothing to worry about.”

My gaze drops to the ground as the boys lead me right out the front door, and for a moment, it almost feels wrong. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this door open and close the whole time that I’ve been here. Though Roman is forced to enter a unique code supplied by his father.

We walk down the massive entrance stairs and Levi grips my arm tighter to keep me from falling. A black SUV is parked out front, and as I step up to the door, I can’t help but look back at the massive castle. It’s the first time that I’m truly seeing the front of it up close and personal. It truly is an incredible sight, creepy but incredible. The gargoyles really are the cherry on top, acting as a final warning to anyone who dares get this far that they should turn and run before it’s too late.

The guys don’t let me appreciate their home for long as they usher me into the black SUV, and before I know it, Roman is hitting the gas, sending us sailing down the long driveway toward the most fucked-up business meeting that I’ll ever sit through.

We drive for nearly an hour and I find myself sitting in silence, deep in thought about the night of the attack. So many things just don’t make sense, like how did Lucas Miller know we were going to be at that club, and how the hell did the boys find me that quickly? I was certain that I’d be hiding out in those bushes for days before they found me. Even then, I probably would have bled out.

Roman veers into the driveway of a massive mansion and pulls to a stop outside the impressive iron gates. He rolls down the driver’s side window and enters a code into a small keypad, only as the gates begin to roll open, I find the question falling from my lips. “How did you guys find me so quickly that night?”

Silence fills the car and I watch as their sharp gazes flick to one another, each of them studiously ignoring me, but their silence speaks volumes. As Roman hits the gas again, sending us flying down the long driveway, an enraged gasp tears from deep inside my chest. “YOU ASSHOLES PUT A TRACKING DEVICE IN ME?”

All three men focus their heavy stares straight out the windshield as we continue down the long driveway, doing everything they can to avoid my questioning gaze.

I grip the knife from my thigh and lean forward, curling my arm around the seat and pressing the blade to the base of Roman’s throat. The fucker doesn’t even blink as his brothers watch on in amusement, looking at me like a lion cub trying to roar, but all they hear is a pathetic little squeal.

“Answer me,” I growl, hating how this position pulls at the stitches in my arm.

Roman sighs and glances at Marcus beside him. “Really? You’re not going to do anything about this?”

He shrugs his shoulder and rests back into his seat as Roman approaches the wide circle at the top of the impressive driveway. “Looks like you have everything under control.”

I can’t help the smirk that sails across my lips. Marcus and Levi have stuck by their word and have backed down at every opportunity over the last few days, allowing me to fly free as I’ve gotten under Roman’s skin time and time again. It’s been amazing, but my smile doesn’t last for long, realizing that both Marcus and Levi were more than likely in on this stupid little tracking device as well.
