“Fuck, cat—Ungh, fuck!—” He gave a couple jerky thrusts, then shoved deep and furiously unloaded.

Sean moaned around his shaft. His first taste of Max’s cum. So thick and warm. Pooling in his mouth as Max pulsed against his tongue, his body twitching beneath Sean’s hold with ragged hitches. Sean squeezed his own boner, damn near ready to come, too. Max shuddered, then breathed a curse and finally slumped.

The cab pulled to a stop. Max’s eyes peeled open, his pupils huge in post-o satiation.

Sean smiled and licked his lips. “Parting gift for you, but one hell of a nightcap for me.”

Max almost smiled. Sean was sure of it. Well… pretty sure. But as Max shoved his dick away and zipped up his fly, all hints of happy disappeared as well.

“That was… amazing, Sean… Thank you.” Max opened the door and climbed out.

Sean followed right behind him. “My pleasure, Sir. Anytime.”

Max pocketed his hands and nodded.

Sean eyed him warily. Max was throwing a weird vibe. One that made Sean’s stomach feel uneasy. “You okay, Max?”

Another nod. “Yeah.” But his voice sounded tight. Like his throat was constricting or something. Max frowned and glanced away. His jaw ticked. “So… Goodbye.”

Sean tensed. More of that vibe. He forced a smile. “You mean goodnight.”

Max met Sean’s eyes. A third nod. “Yeah,” he muttered. “Right.”

Sean exhaled in relief. “Good.”

Then just like that, Max was back in the cab. Sean watched him shut the door. Watched them slowly pull away, his insides feeling ominously bereft. He had no freaking clue what Max’s deal suddenly was, but it unsettled the living shit out of him. And that sucked.

He turned and started walking, heart heavy, eyes on the ground. He’d let Max sleep on it, whatever “it” was, then maybe he’d try texting him again. Tomorrow sometime. Just to make sure all was good. Maybe type “emergency” in all caps at the top. Max had better reply, though, or swear to God, Sean would have to teach him a lesson in consideration.

NINETEEN

How? How in the hell had he let this shit happen?

Arms folded, Max glared irritably across his room, thumbnail between his teeth, ass propped against his dresser.

He’d known Sean was different, a special kind of trouble, right from the very fucking start. So why hadn’t he dealt with this shit better?

Max glanced at his bed, all perfectly made, yet all he could see was Sean’s body. Or rather, the memory of it from just a few weeks back when Max had tied him so securely to its posts. An appetizer of sorts to the night’s main event. And fuck, what an event it had been.

Max’s dick stirred. He scowled and looked away, locking his gaze instead on the window. In all fucking honesty, Max had known shit was getting precarious. Had known he’d been traversing a slippery slope. But until last night, he hadn’t realized the extent, hadn’t grasped the true gravity of the situation.

Yeah, he’d acknowledged that he had feelings for Sean, feelings that weren’t just unacceptable, but threatening. To his lifestyle, to the very welfare of his sanity. What he hadn’t realized, though, was the strength of those feelings. Not until he’d gone out on that dance floor with Sean, felt Sean’s hands on his body—then watched him dance with somebody else. Moving together, smiling, as that dude pawed Sean’s ass.

Most likely he hadn’t realized because he’d never been in a situation like that with Sean before, where his innate possessive nature had ever been tested. All Max knew was that as soon as he’d spotted them, some unknown switch flipped inside his head. One that demanded he reclaim what was his—but not in the way of Dom and sub. With the driving, primal urge of an impassioned lover fighting for the other half of his soul. It’d literally taken all his strength not to rip that fucker’s head off his shoulders. Sean was his. His man. And over his dead body would he risk losing Sean’s affections to someone else.

Which, of course, was the very thought that sent him reeling where he stood. As he ripped “Jack” off Sean’s body and nearly throttled him. As he all but threw Sean over his shoulder. The realization that he truly considered Sean his and would pulverize any who came between them. A mindset he had vowed to never fall into again. Because that would make him vulnerable. Leave parts of himself exposed. And that shit just wasn’t an option. Not for Sean. Not for anyone. No matter how strong he felt about them. A promise to himself he’d never break.

Which meant it was time, once and for all, to finally put this issue with Sean to rest. He’d dragged his feet long enough, not wanting to part with his favorite sub. But now he knew Sean wasn’t just his favorite sub. He was his favorite fucking everything. So, now Max had to put “everything” behind him. Say goodbye to the kid and never look back.
