Cain set our plates down and pulled out the chair for me. I stared at the candle, mesmerized by the glow. Cain cleared his throat and I realized I was standing there like a dimwit. I sat, putting the napkin on my lap. Cain sat across from me and started pouring us each a glass of wine.

“This is really . . . nice,” I finished lamely. Cain just grunted and handed me a glass of wine. I felt unaccountably shy all of a sudden. This date felt . . . well, more date-like than usual. Serious somehow. He looked at me quizzically.

“Are you wanting to say grace, sweetheart?”

I almost melted from the term of endearment. He was so sweet with me. The last of my anger and frustration melted away. I was ungrateful. He was doing everything he could to keep me safe, and I’d been mad at him for it. Not to mention how lonely I’d been. Horny too.

Bad Kelly. Bad.

“No, thank you.” I picked up my fork and knife and started to eat. Cain watched me intently in between cutting bites of his humongous steak.

“Does it bother you?”

“What?”

“That I’m eating meat in front of you.”

I put down my fork and patted my lips with the napkin. The pepper had been a little greasy.

“I’m not a militant vegetarian or anything. But the cattle industry is destroying the planet and creating superbugs.”

“Really?”

I nodded earnestly.

“It’s the number-one cause of greenhouse gases.”

“I don’t get it.”

“Cow farts. Millions of them. Plus, they are eating grains and stuff that isn’t normal for them. It’s the equivalent of too much Taco Bell at four AM. You fart.”

He snorted and I continued.

“Anyway, they overcrowd them and give them too many antibiotics, which is gross. The bacteria gets resistant to the antibiotics and they spread those superbugs to the people who eat them. Not to mention that it’s not really very good for you to eat that much meat.” I smiled at him. “Plus, I think cows are cute.”

“So what’s the solution? Not everybody is going to stop eating meat, Kell.”

“Just eat less meat. Imagine if everybody in the world did meatless Mondays. It would be huge. Stuff like that. And eat grass-fed or organic. They don’t get as many antibiotics and the farming practices are usually more humane.”

“That makes sense.” He nodded. “Done.”

I stared at Cain.

“What?”

“Meatless Mondays. Grass-fed whatever. Done.”

“You would do that for me?” I felt tears in my eyes, getting surprisingly misty. What the heck was wrong with me? “You would change?”

He cocked an eyebrow.

“Of course. What you said made sense to me, and it matters to you. That’s enough for me.”

I smiled at him and shook my head at myself. My tears were gone and now I felt like laughing. I really was emotional tonight.

“I have another surprise for you.”

“What?”

He grinned.

“I’m sleeping over.”

“Connor agreed to that?”

“Yes, but . . .” He sighed in exasperation. “With provisions.”

“No sex under my roof!”

I almost jumped out of my seat but Cain just pulled a face. I turned around to look for my brother but he wasn’t there. I peered at the stairwell. I though I could just make out a pair of feet . . .

“Jesus, Connor, are you sitting on the stairs or something?”

It was quiet for a minute.

“Yes.”

I burst out laughing. My brother was being such a dork. He even sounded embarrassed. Cain started laughing too. It was so loud that the house seemed to shake. I heard Cass open her door and pad barefoot over to the stairs. She came halfway down and bent down to stare at us.

“Is Cain laughing?”

“Yes. Yes, he is.”

“Wow.” Her eyes were wide. She looked at her husband and made a rude hand gesture. “Get your ass upstairs, right now!”

“Don’t you sass me, woman!”

“What are you going to do about it?”

I heard running steps and then my brother stomped up the stairs. Cass let out a squeal. I smiled, realizing he must have thrown her over his shoulder. I looked back at Cain and shrugged.

“Ignore him.”

“Your brother was pretty specific about his rules.”

I groaned, realizing I was in for it. Another night of no sex? How was I going to make it?

“Oh, no. Not again.”

He nodded and cut another bite.

“Yes, again.”

Chapter Twenty-Four

Cain

“Please, Cain! Oh, God . . .”

I pulled another toe into my mouth and sucked. I was lying on the small double bed across from Kelly. My shirt was open across my chest from kissing her earlier. I’d had to feel her against me. But other than that, I had my clothes mostly on.

She did not.

And she was begging.

A lot.

I ran my fingertips up her thighs and shushed her. She was making this more difficult with her descriptive requests. So far, she’d begged me to lick her pussy, to ram her with my cock, and to spank her. All of which I really, really wanted to do. I hissed out air as my dick swelled even further. If her brother heard us . . . but, I thought with a smirk, at least I was following his rules.
