Forever.

I laughed into the small bedroom, startling Nacho from his deep sleep. This wasn’t me. I didn’t pine. And I sure as hell didn’t pine for someone I didn’t even really have. This was temporary. After we finished Cooped Up With Nine, we’d go our separate ways. Hopefully Nine would return home with a hot new Stallion sponsorship to support his vlog, and I would help Jacks and then return to LA to finally start my acting career in earnest.

It was good. Correction: it was great. And I got to have hot sex with an even hotter lumberjack fantasy man in the meantime. Perfect.

The bathroom door opened and Nine stepped out with nothing but a tiny towel wrapped around his waist.

Perfect indeed.

No more deep thoughts. Just sex. And when I went to LA, then I could look for someone more like me. Someone who…

I swallowed. Every feature I’d want in a partner was already present in the big guy standing at the foot of the bed. And if I found someone else in LA, that would mean he’d presumably find someone else in Wheatland. The thought of that made me want to throw an ax at a tree the way Isaac had tried to teach me one afternoon.

“You’re glaring at me,” he said with a lifted eyebrow. “What’s going on? Was that your brother again on the phone?”

I threw back the covers and shimmied out of my underwear, careful not to disturb the big clean bandage covering my stitches.

“Fuck me.”

Nine’s eyes widened comically before he clutched at his chest and gave an exaggerated gasp. “What, no foreplay? No seduction?”

I turned to reach for the bottle of lube on his side table and felt a giant, callused palm squeeze my ass. Before I could turn back around, his other hand joined in, and suddenly, his beard was scratching down the cleft between my cheeks. “Holy fuck.”

Isaac Winshed was going for it.

His hot tongue teased me lightly while his hands squeezed me roughly. The delicious roughness of his beard was something out of my deepest fantasies, but I’d never in a million years imagined Isaac having any interest in rimming me.

“Fuck,” I repeated, sucking in a desperate breath. “Don’t stop.”

I reached back and put my fingers in his thick hair. As soon as that talented tongue landed on the sensitive skin of my hole, I made an embarrassing whimper sound. “Oh god. Fuck.”

His laugh rumbled against me. “You like that word.”

“Stop talking,” I begged. “Fuck.”

More laughter. I had to give him credit. He’d never once balked at having sex with a man. Yes, he’d been unsure of himself at times, but he’d never been weirded out about anything we’d done together in bed. But this took the cake. And of course he was a master at it. The beard he had was a bit like cheating though. Bonus points and all that.

“Mmpfhhhh.” I bit into the pillow to keep from scaring the dog.

The cool air hit my tender skin when he pulled away. “Hands and knees, baby. Gonna be fast and hard.”

Who was this guy? During the day, he was quiet and pliable, but in bed, he suddenly found his confidence and enjoyed taking charge.

I scrambled up onto all fours to do his bidding while he grabbed a condom and flipped open the lube cap. Within moments, he was pressing inside with his hands tight on my hips. Now it was his turn to repeat the same word over and over.

“Fuck, ohhh fuck, fuck.”

I would have laughed if I hadn’t been so busy screaming for more.

Nine

Even though the sex with Cooper was still amazing—off-the-charts incredible—something was different. The call from his agent had changed things in some indescribable way. It was like a part of Cooper was no longer here with me. Which made sense, I guess, since he now had an amazing dream carrot dangling in front of him.

But it was even more of a reminder that this wasn’t real. He wasn’t mine, and we weren’t living my dream. I’d never really known what I wanted to do with my life before now, but suddenly I’d had a taste of it. This. Him, us, the renovation project filled with DIY tutorials I got to share with others. Late-afternoon sun slanting across the trees while I flew the drone camera to capture nature scapes for the videos. Nacho chasing critters into the underbrush and bounding back happily with a stick in his mouth. Glancing up to find Cooper’s head thrown back in laughter over finding another hillbilly decorator trick in one of the magazines from the Nickerie.

I was living my dream right here, but it wasn’t going to last. Which, of course, made me different. I didn’t even realize I was holding back until Cooper called me out on it. I’d walked deep into the woods to find some branches for a trim project I wanted to try. It took much longer than I expected to find enough of the length and width I needed, but I’d finally gotten enough when I heard crashing through the trees behind me. I turned back to see Cooper storming toward me mad as hell.
