“Here we go again.”

“You’re damn right here we go again, Ms. Sticky Fingers, because you’ll be living here for a while, and if you try ’nd hack into my bank accounts like that one time, I’m going to fuck you up. I wish you would use all that smarts in your head for other shit!”

Her eyes turned dark and angry as she swiveled on her feet to glower at him.

“Motherfucker, that wasn’t me. I told you I’d never do that to you.”

“Who did it then, Irish?”

“Hell if I know!” She threw up her hands. “Folks ’round here know you’ve got money. Look at this house! Look at the cars you drive and the clothes you wear. They want a piece of it.”

“So you don’t know how to hack into my bank account?” She shook her head. “Liar. I saw you do it to someone else, years ago!”

“Okay, well, yeah, I know how to do it, but I didn’t do it. I especially wouldn’t do that to my own brother.” He sucked his teeth and looked back at his computer, checking emails. “Now, yeah, I stole your gotdamn PlayStation and pawned it to go gamble, but that was over seven years ago. You never used it anyway.”

“That’s not the point…” He logged into his bank accounts right that second. Irish was so sly, she may have already tried her hand at them.

“So, what do you think of me getting a wire and camera on Honey?”

“The three of us already sat down and talked about this.”

“No, me and Honey talked about it, and you sat there looking like you were about to fall asleep.”

“I said I wasn’t in favor of this. That could tip him off. He’s going to be examining her for plastic surgery, so that leaves her more vulnerable. Skin showing. I’m not comfortable with this. At all.”

“Okay, nix the wire. I can use other devices. There are plenty of places on her body he won’t be examining.”

“It doesn’t matter. It could fall out if she moves the wrong way, or he gets suspicious and within seconds, he’ll have someone in there to murder her right on the spot. I’m not taking that chance. It’s bad enough that she’s taking a risk by going in there in the first place.”

“James, she’s going for a breast augmentation, right? Well, pretending to. I could put a recording device in her shoe, and one in her ear. The one in her ear could be inserted deeper into the canal, so there will be no chance of it fallin’ out. I’ve done it a half dozen times.”

“Irish, I know you want to help, but—”

“Want to help?! Want to help?! I was incarcerated because of him! I want his ass to pay for this. I can’t do it myself, so Honey is the next best thing. I can’t move too crazy, or I’ll be locked up again and lose Tyler forever.”

“He did that to you to get to me. He got a tip that it was you and your friends that committed that robbery, and used it to his advantage. Simple as that.”

“I know that, but that doesn’t make it any better. I’d never been to prison before. Jail, yeah, but not prison. Now I have a record I can never get rid of. I can never get any of my I.T. jobs back or work in security systems again! He ruined my life. HE. MUST. PAY!”

She squeezed her fists extremely tight, her face turning purple. Archer leaned back in his chair and spun it slowly, back and forth, mulling things over.

“Okay. But first, I want to see it. I want you to give me a demo. I want it installed and for us to give it a test run around here. If anything happens that makes me feel as if it’s unsafe for Honey, then it’s off the table.”

“Okay. Yeah, I can agree with that. I’ll need a credit card?”

He sighed, snatched a bottle of whiskey off the desk and poured it into a small glass. “For what?”

“To get the materials! I need to go to Home Depot, PC Wizard, and Best Buy.”

He begrudgingly reached into his pocket, pulled out his wallet, and slid out one of his credit cards. “Here.”

She marched over with a smile and snatched it out of his hand.

“I want receipts for everything, and I mean everything.”

“Mmm hmmm.” She slipped it in her jogging pants pocket. “Keys.”

“Nope.”

“Oh, come on, James! You let Honey drive a car.”

“You’re not Honey.”

“I’m family! You should be treating me far better! Give me the motorcycle, then.”

“No, and Honey didn’t take my car and run it into a ditch after a drunken night with her friends, now did she?”

“You hold too many grudges.” She put her hand on her hip. “You gotta let that old shit go. How am I going to get around then? Billy?”
