Why did I want his approval so much? He had done nothing but turn me on, then humiliate me since he’d saved me from death.

“Eat.” Huck’s one-worded command surprised me. I glanced at the lasagna, then back at him. “Get some fucking food.”

Gage slid the lasagna toward me, and I put some on my plate. Next time though, I wasn’t coming to the shop. I would stay locked up in that house before I did this again.

Gage placed a slice of garlic bread on top of my lasagna. “That’ll keep your ass juicy.”

“Gage.” The warning in Huck’s tone wasn’t lost on me.

I picked it up and took a bite. Gage nodded his approval, and for a moment, I relaxed enough to eat.

Another week passed with my feeding the guys breakfast, them leaving for work during the day, and then them returning for dinner most nights. At least up until last night.

There had been a fight on pay-per-view, and the house had filled up. After making the appetizers Gage had requested, I escaped to the room I’d been given and locked myself in for the evening. However, on my escape, I noticed Ray-Ray sitting on Huck’s lap the way I had at last week’s party. Seeing her was enough to keep me hidden away.

I fell asleep around ten last night, and the party was still going downstairs. It had been loud and only gotten louder.

There was a knock, and then a note slid under my door this morning. After opening my eyes and squinting against the morning sun pouring through the blinds, I noticed it on the floor.

Business to handle. We’re gone. Not sure how long. Most likely until tomorrow.

—Gage

I was thankful I wouldn’t have to look at Huck this morning or today. Simply because I was jealous. Admitting it didn’t help, but at least I was honest with myself. Gage had said Huck liked fat asses, but apparently, not my kind of fat ass. Mine had dimples, and it probably wouldn’t hurt if I did squats daily. Not that I was going to start that crap.

There was no reason to cook breakfast today, and I had no idea what I was going to do after I cleaned. There was probably more of a mess than usual after the party that had gone on so late last night. If I finished in time and had nothing to do, I could make use of the pool. There were five bikinis in that box that Gage had brought me. None fit me properly, but since I was here alone, I could wear one.

Deciding that was my plan, I did my morning routine upstairs, then headed downstairs to find a complete mess. Plates with half-eaten food, empty beer bottles, a broken glass, several used condoms, some dip smeared into the rug. I was only in the living room. If the other rooms down here were this bad, then I was going to be busy for hours. The pool might be an evening event.

Getting to work, I filled five big trash bags before I could even start anything else. Someone had thrown up in the bathroom beside the living room, and it was on the walls and floor. Three used condoms were on the bathroom floor, and I sincerely hoped those had been used before someone spewed vomit in here.

Seven hours and thirty-eight minutes later, I wiped the sweat from my forehead and sighed. The house was back in order and smelled like the citrus cleaning solution I’d used, and even the rug cleaner I had found made the rug look new. I deserved pool time after that. Maybe even a cocktail.

After putting on a red bikini that went straight up my ass with no coverage at all, I went back down to the kitchen to make myself something to eat. I took my time making avocado toast before taking it and a bottle of water outside. I’d make myself a cocktail later.

The late afternoon sun was bright, so I sat down in a lounge chair that had a table beside it with an umbrella for some shade. I couldn’t remember the last time I’d lain by a pool or gotten in a pool. The temperature had to be in the nineties. I couldn’t wait to sink into the pretty blue water. It was calling to me.

After finishing my meal, I closed my eyes and enjoyed the warmth of the sun until I couldn’t take the heat any longer. I swam a few laps, then lay back out again, wishing I had a good book to read. Closing my eyes, I must have drifted to sleep because the next thing I heard was the slamming of a door.

I sat up, startled by the sound, and swung my gaze toward the house. Huck was stalking toward me. Although he had on sunglasses, I could tell by the set of his mouth and the veins in his neck that he was angry. Maybe I wasn’t allowed to relax or swim. Gage could have mentioned that in his note. Also that they COULD be home today. He’d made it sound like they wouldn’t be.
