I don’t know what possessed me to go through with it. I had enough confidence in myself to beard the lion in his den, but even I knew it was a stupid move to meet him at his place instead of the office. That had been pushing the boundaries of prosecutorial etiquette way too far.

But here I am, well fucked with the sore twat to prove it and at a loss as to where to go from here. I felt small in his presence. Not small as in unimportant, diminished.

But small in the ‘you’re not the big bad DA here.’ It had taken a lot of hard work to get to my position. At twenty-six I was the youngest DA this city has ever had.

That’s something I was so proud of, the feather in

my cap if you will. I had set goals in life and had gone after each and every one of them with my eye on the governor’s mansion.

There was a lot I could do for my state and I thought why not? There was nothing wrong with being ambitious. But my drive and obsession had helped me to accelerate things a lot more than had I been anyone else.

For the past three years I’d worked my ass off and worked my way up to the top. Graduating from law school early at the ripe old age of twenty-two had put me in good stead.

My credentials and lily white background had helped land me in the position I now held, but now it looks like I’d thrown it all away in one night.

I didn’t realize I’d been sitting there lost and in a daze until he got up and started clearing the dishes away. He moved like he hadn’t a care in the world, like his life wasn’t hanging in the balance.

I wondered now if that was due to his innocence, or the arrogance of a man who knew that he hadn’t left anything behind with which to hang him. I’m not stupid, I was sure his attorneys already had his

appeal written up. There was no guarantee that if I won this case by the skin of my teeth with circumstantial evidence alone that his high priced lawyers wouldn’t be able to get him off on appeal.

“Come into the kitchen with me Vanessa while I clean up.” I followed after him like I’d been programmed and I was starting to wonder if I’d been drugged.

But no, I hadn’t eaten or drank anything until the wine in the tub. Too bad, I have nothing else to blame my lax in judgment on, but my own libido.

I sat at the kitchen island and watched him clean the dishes, washing them before putting them in the dishwasher. He looks as good from the back as he does the front.

He turned and leaned back against the sink with a towel in hand. My eyes followed the movement of his hands as he dried them, his gaze trained on my face.

I felt twitchy again and was getting ready to open my mouth to tell him again that I really needed to go, but then he walked towards me in that panther on the hunt way he has and I thought, just one more roll in the hay won’t hurt.

Vanessa

I woke up with a hard chest under my cheek and morning sunlight in my eyes. It took me a few seconds to recall where I was and why there was a man in my bed, and then it all came rushing back.

I popped my head up with my heart in my throat as I looked down at him. How did this happen? I could’ve sworn I’d told myself that there was no way I was gonna spend the night in his bed.

Although I’d already broken every rule in the book I drew the line at that. And yet here I am. He was asleep with one hand thrown over his eyes and the other stretched out still where I’d been lying just moments ago.

Something squeezed in my chest when I saw him lying there. He looked innocent or as innocent as a six foot three, one hundred and eighty pound man could look.

A lock of his dark hair that I’d noticed always fell into his face was curled under his arm and his

morning shadow added yet another concept to the contours of his amazing face. There was no denying that he was one of the most handsome men I’d ever met.

My eyes went down his body to his ink and the flat hard planes of his stomach and chest and my mouth watered. I wanted to reach out and touch him. To run my hands over all that hardness.

Something moved beneath the sheet he had thrown across his hips and I realized it was his morning hard-on coming to life. It looked like a small animal.
