We were on the deck of the building Janet and Jack owned downtown. They had turned their old loft apartment with huge roof deck into an event space. We were making it pretty for the festivities tonight.

Tonight, Drake was going to propose.

Oh yes, the girls were on board with formally welcoming Dana to the family. We were an integral part of the plan, proving guidance every step of the way. We did not want him to make a silly man mistake. We’d helped him pick out the ring. The music. The location. Everything was planned out to a tee. But that’s not what we were talking about.

We were talking about the guy. Joe. The stalker who had terrorized Dana. It had been Lucky’s idea to find other places he worked over the years and track down other women he might have bothered, even if it had never been reported. Doing that had yielded more results that we could have imagined. It helped Connor create a case so iron tight that the stalker would be on every kind of watch list forever. He’d also figured out that putting the guy in a private asylum for the interim, paid for by a trumped up charity we put together, would help the situation. That way, we’d know if he left before the authorities could handle the case officially.

Connor had helped filing the case as soon as the Cain’s team could track down the information we needed. It had taken less than twenty four hours to find a safe place to put him in the meantime, under a doctor’s care. Twenty four hours of the club watching the guy sniveling and begging the guys to tell Dana all kinds of crazy shit before we had the intel and the plan was put into motion.

Our men had that all handled. And thanks to Lucky, they had done it without fucking the guy up. They had followed Dana’s wishes. The guy was going to get mental health help whether he wanted it or not.

Just like us ladies had handled the romance and love department.

We were gonna make things flow nice and easy for Drake. I hoped so anyway. A marriage proposal was not a done deal, bo matter how much Dana might love Drake. And she did love him. She had told us. But I didn’t know if she even wanted to get married to anyone, let alone an inked up biker.

I really was not sure she was going to say yes.

I hoped she said yes. I really did. I wanted her as a sister. We all wanted her on our team. She was a freaking brave as hell rockstar and a sweetheart, to boot.

Never mind the fact that none of us had ever seen Drake pay the least bit of attention to a woman before. Any woman. Lord knows we had tried to introduce him to a nice girl now and then. He had simply ignored them, preferring to drink with the guys at any family barbecue or event we put together to stage a low key set up at. So this was a complete 180 degree turn for him. He had never been in love. I wasn’t even sure he’d ever even been in like. He was extremely vulnerable. I mean, the guy hadn’t just bought a ring. He’d bought a ring, a new car, and a piece of land. Along with the rest of the guys, he’d already started building a house on it.

He was going to be an absolute mess if things did not go as planned.

“Did someone tell her to wear something cute enough for the photos?” Kaylie asked, looking worried. We all exchanged glances. It was not easy to warn someone to look cute at the same time as not letting the proverbial cat out of the bag.

“Just tell her it’s a party and we always take lots of pictures,” Molly offered.

“Oh, I got this. I am stopping by there with some outfits in about….” Becky looked at her watch. “Shoot, I am late!”

“Check her nails!”

“Right. I’ll bring a set of press ons just in case.”

She hustled off while the rest of us worked on the decorations, food prep, and set up the bar.

Within the hour everyone was there. Everyone except for Drake and Dana, that is. A few of us were hitting the bar kind of hard when they finally arrived. We were all nervous. Dana looked even more beautiful than usual. Casual enough that we could tell she had no clue about the surprised proposal, and pretty as a peach for the photos if she said yes. Drake looked like he was sweating as he got two glasses of champagne. I almost laughed when he downed one.

Instead I held my breath and gripped my glass so hard I thought that it might shatter.
