Taking my time, I searched the area, looking for cameras—which there were none. I then did a walk-through of the inside, also checking for cameras there. Nothing. That was good—less work I had to fucking do.

Cameras were able to be hacked. I hadn’t thought Alejandro would send us somewhere with them, but I wasn’t taking any chances.

I opened the door to the master bedroom and pulled back the blankets on the bed so it would be ready for Gabriel before making my way back out to the truck. I shut off the engine and pocketed the keys, then strode around to the passenger side, easing open the door since Gabriel was slumped against it.

He blearily blinked his eyes when I caught him before groaning. “Tango…” he mumbled. At least his voice was coming back to him. I was worried he’d regressed to far for it to come back yet.

“Ssh,” I soothed, letting him lean against me. I reached across him and unbuckled his seat belt. “Wrap your arms around my neck, baby.”

Once he did as I asked, I lifted him from the seat and cradled him against my chest, using my foot to shut the truck door. He snuggled into me, a shiver wracking his frame from the cold. I quickly made my way into the cabin, shutting that door with my foot, too. He sighed when I laid him on the mattress.

“You coming to bed, too?” he mumbled, his eyes still shut as he snaked his arms beneath his pillow.

“In a few minutes, baby,” I assured him as I tugged his sneakers off and set them on the floor right under the bed. “You go on back to sleep.”

He balled the ends of the sleeves on my hoodie he was wearing into his fists and pulled them up to his face, nodding his head. I covered him up and pressed a kiss to his forehead before walking back out to the truck to get our duffel bag and the small cooler of snacks and drinks we hadn’t finished on the way up. After putting those inside the cabin, I went back out to get the gun and ammunition Gidget had gifted him, setting them on the dresser in our bedroom so they were out of the way.

Making one more trek outside, I headed back to the truck and cranked it back up. I managed to park it in the woods so it was out of sight of anyone who might happen to drive by, and then I worked on covering the tracks with snow and hiding the truck in the brush. The black stood out against all the white, making it complicated, but I did my best.

Once I was back inside, I unpacked the cooler and then worked on unpacking our duffel bag into the dresser, stacking Gabriel’s books on top next to his gun. I didn’t mind living out of a duffel bag; I preferred it actually since it made it easier for me to just grab and go if I needed, but Gabriel couldn’t stand it. It made him feel displaced.

It was already going to be hard enough for him to adjust yet again to being moved around. I wouldn’t make it worse for my own selfish preferences. Gabriel had enough shit to work through without disorganization being slapped on top of it all.

Thinking Gabriel might enjoy a fire in the fireplace when he woke up, I worked on lighting one, using the dried wood stacked to the side of the fireplace. Once it was going, I walked out onto the porch and grabbed some greener wood—wood that wasn’t dried out and “seasoned”—and added a couple of pieces to the flames. Once I closed the grate, I toed off my boots by the front door and then made my way to the bedroom, already shrugging off my cut and tugging my shirt over my head.

Gabriel flipped over to face me the moment I slid into bed beside him, his hands reaching for me in his sleep. I tugged him closer without hesitation, cuddling him close. He sighed, whispering my name, his eyelids never moving. My heart skipped a beat in my chest.

I hoped the club managed to get rid of the president of Ghosts of Chaos soon because I wasn’t sure how long I could resist the sweet temptation of this boy.

The foreseeable future was going to be fucking torture.

I lasted three hours in bed with Gabriel before I had to get up, take a shower, and rub one out so I wouldn’t flip that boy onto his back and fuck him so stupid, he forgot his name and only remembered mine.

This was going to be the hardest time of my fucking life…in more ways than one.

I hadn’t gone back to bed after, still too wired and keyed up. I knew the moment I laid back in that bed beside him, I was going to be hard all over again. So, I came out to the living room and settled on the floor across from the fireplace and just watched the flames dance for hours.
