I didn’t want it said that the local cop was sore because his now fiancé had once dated the accused; didn’t want anything but the truth in the forefront.

For that reason I was going to take my time and go over everything with a fine-tooth comb.

I hated it more than ever now that she was involved. I don’t know what twist of fate had sent us to the cove in that day, but whatever it was had landed us in a pickle.

The Watcher

So they've found the body. I wonder what are the odds that these two would be the ones to find it? A policeman and an investigative reporter, this is truly stranger than fiction. It's as though everything in the universes was aligned to fuck me.

I wanted that money, I'd seen the boss moving around town. He'd promised to make it all go away, but he wasn't too pleased with me.

I don't see how it is my fault, how was I to know she was coming home? Now she was back and things were looking sticky. I still needed to get my money though, even if I had to move ahead on my own.

I still had the merchandise, because the boss had said he didn't want to take any chances of us being seen together.

He'd promised one million, but maybe if I went to the buyers myself cut out the middleman, I could get more.

I laughed to myself as I loaded up the needle for my next hit. Had to be careful though, have to keep my wits about me, who knows when the cops would come knocking with their questions?

Ten seconds later I was at the place where nothing matters. I was floating on a cloud and all around me was warmth.

I smiled wider at the thought of feeling like this everyday, whenever I felt the need. No longer scraping money together just for the chance to find some peace, it should be everyone’s right after all, to have such an escape without hassle.

Maybe the boss would contact me tomorrow, if not I was going to see about moving the merchandise myself. Of course those guys preferred dealing with the boss, he was more cultured than I after all, but I figure as long as they got what they were after it really won’t matter who they bought it off of.

As long as they didn’t try cheating me after all the hard work I’d done. They might’ve planned the whole thing, but I was the one who carried it out.

So what the boss was mad because the body hadn’t done what I expected it to? They had no way of tying him to any of us.

Maybe the boss would order me to knock off the reporter before this thing got too far out of hand.

SHANIA

It was strange being on this end of an interview, but not bad. Agent Everett was very nice and it went smoothly. Seeing Dorian out in the hallway only threw me a little, before my brothers and Donovan were there practically blocking me from his view.

I still felt queasy to my stomach but being surrounded by them help take the sting out of it. Donovan especially went a long way to making me forget my ex mistake.

Donovan, wow, what a night. It had been all I’d dreamed of and more. I’m glad I’d waited, that I’d saved myself, more so now than ever.

After the number Dorian had pulled on me, the last thing on my mind was romance. Though I had thought of Donovan in those days more than I had in years.

I’d long since given up any hope of ever being his girl. It had been years since I’d even seen him, and he had become nothing more than a fond memory, a dream lost.

Something I had taken out and smiled over with a little touch of bittersweet pain from time to time.

Now here we were, and he’s asked me to marry him. That alone kept the smile on my face. That and the proprietary way he walked up to me in the midst of my family, with his peers milling about and drew me into his arms.

DONOVAN

"You're done, want to grab some lunch or something?" I got to her as soon as the interview was over and she’d cleared the door.

"We didn't get our quotient of flowers today Chase, I'm not sure about this lunch thing."

"Not to mention chocolates, I was getting accustomed to the daily deliveries I feel deprived." Her annoying brothers came up on us and started their shit.

"If you two fools need candy and flowers go buy your own, come on princess let's go eat."

There was playful laughter and banter behind us as we left.

I caught sight of Carter coming towards us down the hallway, and before Shania could become aware of him, I put my arm around her shoulders and steered her towards the exit.
